About a week ago, I shared our latest article about California's transition to a 100% renewable grid by 2045: https://lnkd.in/g9GETMkU In it, I cautioned government entities about not repeating the mistakes made in the roll out of EV incentives. There the money went to the richest segment of society who didn't need it to make the change. Well, disappointingly in the renewables transition, its already happening again! Excellent work done by Severin Borenstein and Lucas Davis over at Energy Institute at HAAS shows that incentives for: (1) energy efficiency including new windows, doors, and heat pumps, and (2) residential solar, have been claimed by the highest income segments of our society. In fact, for the time period between 2006-2021 "the bottom three income quintiles received 10% of all credits while the top quintile received 60%." Lucas put it more simply in the blog post below: "Our new paper is mostly about equity and mostly bad news, with the lion’s share of these tax credits still going to higher income households." https://lnkd.in/gNDBxpKH We can and must do better for the lowest income segments of our country. We must also soberly and honestly admit that these communities are also those bearing the most burden from pollution and climate change and do something real about it!

A newly proposed bipartisan bill would prevent Chinese companies from benefitting from IRA incentives - specifically the advanced manufacturing production credit. This would affect global solar manufacturers with plans for US capacity, including Canadian Solar, Trina Solar, JinkoSolar, JA Solar and LONGi. Politics continue to play a major role in 2024's solar market. We're keeping a close eye on these trends as well as the market response. #45XCredit #SolarPolicy #KinectSolar

Bipartisan bill supports US Solar manufacturering by preventing Chinese solar manufacturers from accessing $$US subsidies and tax incentives for solar manufacturing plant included in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) . Louisiana and Florida Republican Senators jointly file with Georgia and Ohio Democratic Senators the "American Tax Dollars for American Solar Manufacturing Act" Let #KinectSolar guide your supply chain, procurement decisions and asset management through the solar policy changes and help you mitigate risk/loss. #45XCredit #SolarPolicy #KinectSolar #REplus24

Empowering planet positive startups to access capital and go to market | Inventor, Executive, Founder | cleantech, climatetech, proptech expert
The Netherlands is Not Prepared! A combination of mismanagement and outdated policies has led to a grid disaster in the Netherlands. The government has clung to the old-fashioned model of monopolized energy generation and delivery; a model they continued to apply to wind and solar farms—most of which are owned by the large oil and gas companies. Despite government attempts to discourage them, Dutch residents have continued installing solar panels on their rooftops. Today, these residents are even penalized by energy companies with high fees for being connected to the grid. (Note: the Dutch government has recently expressed intentions to stop these penalties under certain if-conditions.) The government's denial of the potential success of decentralized, residential solar systems combined with a lack of vision caused the semi-governmental grid management companies to ignore and delay critical upgrades to the grid. Over a decade passed with little progress. Instead, they focused on connecting large, taxpayer-funded solar and wind farms. A question arises: why should taxpayers foot the bill for grid connections of investor-owned (often foreign) solar farms, which are essentially profit vehicles? It seems the top management of these grid companies failed to anticipate the current crisis. The situation has spiraled so far out of control that new grid connections have been halted in many regions for years already. As a result, no new residential or commercial buildings can be constructed or opened, as there is no capacity to connect them to the electricity grid. Some developers are still proceeding with projects, but astonishingly, plan these new high-rises to rely on diesel generators (high-rises!) for several years until the grid issues are resolved. Meanwhile, Dutch taxpayers are paying an average of €364 annually per household for grid delivery services which should include maintenance and upgrades, but starting 2025, they will face an additional €1,741 per household in taxes for grid upgrades. [Link in comments] As the Dutch saying goes: This is toe-curling! The “American Tax Dollars for American Solar Manufacturing Act,” a new bill backed by a bipartisan Senate coalition, would ensure Chinese-owned or headquartered #solar companies do not have access to U.S. incentives while they receive massive market-distorting subsidies in China, including on many of the components they are building into end products in the United States. #SolarManufacturing #SolarIndustryNews #CleanEnergy “Domestic production of these fundamental components, particularly wafers and polysilicon, is critical to building a robust U.S. solar supply chain and this legislation will help make that a reality.” - Michael Carr, Executive Director of #SEMA Coalition. #Renewableenergy has become a rare #bipartisan issue in today's #politicallandscape. While some leaders push to cut parts of #climatelegislation, Speaker Mike Johnson has acknowledged the value of certain #cleanenergy #taxincentives. His comments highlight that both #Republicans and #Democrats see the economic and community benefits of #renewables, like #jobcreation and #energysavings. As districts across the nation reap rewards from clean energy projects, it’s clear that smart, targeted investments in renewables are winning support on both sides of the aisle.
