Hi, I am a St. Jude Hero! My family (Dr. Claudiana Triskatis) and myself moved to the USA last year. As part of living in this great country it was always my dream to run the New York Marathon and this year I will do it - on the day of my birthday! When researching on the race, I realized that I could make it happen and combine this with a bigger reason by fundraising for the kids and families at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital: 1) Every donation helps find a cure for childhood cancer. Did you know: Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live. 2) Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer. 3) St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children. My race is already funded - but like in business, then let's not stop but set the target higher: my enhanced goal is to double the amount and every additional donation will help to support more children and goes straight to St. Jude. There have been several charity events recently, including CIBC's Run For The Cure and Princess Margaret’s Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer, among many others. Have you participated in any of these events? If so, was your participation driven by a personal connection to the cause that the charity supports? Our data indicates that 62% of individuals are more inclined to donate $100 to a charity when they have a personal connection to someone impacted by the cause. The same holds true for charities that clearly outline who they are helping. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an increase in charitable events aimed at attracting donors, can be expected. Understanding the genuine desires of consumers when supporting a cause is crucial for successful fundraising. Ultimately, the simpler and clearer the communication from your cause, the higher the likelihood that consumers will show their support. #cause #donations #support

Awareness for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital- Cancer has effected all of us at one time or another. Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease for U.S. children past infancy. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has increased children's survivability from 20% 50 years ago to 80% today. In order to help raise funds for many families and children whose lives have been affected by cancer, I will be competing the toughest 50k race in the USA; the Speedgoat Mountain Race in Utah July 19-20th. Covering the 11,500ft of incline with a 45lb ALICE pack before cutoff time. "That's my goal; a little pain shared is pain lessened for another."
