On the first day of a new government and the 76th birthday of the NHS it’s time to start having some grown up conversations with our communities, our public sector workforce and our politicians. We know there are huge waiting lists. We know the workforce is under extreme pressure. We know that funding is big issue. We know a lot of the NHS estate is not fit for purpose. We also know that we can’t solve these problems and truly innovate in the NHS without working with social care and the voluntary sector to truly address the issues our communities face when it comes to health and wellbeing. We can’t have conversations in isolation and we can’t “fix” the NHS if we don’t address what’s happening with social care and charities. Let’s start talking about how we can do the best with what we’ve got, in true partnership across all sectors and start to help everyone understand some of the challenges and engage in the choices that will need to be made.
