Being non-speaking is not the same as having nothing to say! Check out Elizabeth Bonker conversation with #TeamNiB CEO and Founder Dan Harris FRSA Harris. Elizabeth is the Executive director of Communication4All, which is bringing down barriers for 31 million non-speaking autistic individuals. 💬 We asked Elizabeth: How can we enable non-speaking autistic individuals in Society? 1. Use tech-to-speech technology -- like the ‘talker’ you may have seen Dan’s son #TheJoshieMan use – to bring down communication barriers. 2. Make companies and executives awareness aware of the accessibility of technology to support neurodivergent people. 3. Many non-speaking people don’t have access to the tech they need. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗪𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲? Discourse is essential for effective communication and collective progress. It allows individuals to articulate their thoughts, share knowledge, and challenge existing ideas, leading to a deeper understanding and more sophisticated concepts. By enabling constructive dialogue and conflict resolution, discourse promotes social cohesion and cooperation. Discourse is also crucial for informed citizen participation and decision-making. It ensures a variety of voices are heard and considered, making it important to question authorities and demand clarity regarding their actions. By driving innovation, facilitating learning, and strengthening community bonds, discourse is vital for both personal and societal improvement. For those who believe that asking questions, contemplating viewpoints, and contributing to existing discourse won't make a difference, I would like to emphasize that it truly does matter. Yes, it does matter. It holistically enhances our collective responsibility to hold each other accountable, and it does bring change. #Askquestions #Challengeauthorities

Our language is so important
In this image, he is holding a case, not a person. Anyone who knows me knows how passionate I am about language and how this can empower or disempower; depersonalise or mentalise. During reflective supervision with student social workers this week the theme of language came up with the term 'case' being used to refer to a woman being supported. It got me thinking about the role we all play in respectfully challenging the use of disempowering language and simultaneously being open to this challenge ourselves; which I have been. We're human... I say this with humility, having reflected many a time on the language I've used in the past... and I'm grateful to those who brought it to my awareness! #bethedifference #poweroflanguage

International Speaker | Author | Educational Consultant | Working with Professionals, Educators & Students (Families) | Topics: SEL, Mental Health & Wellness, Anti-Bullying, DiSC, Self-Worth, Self-Love, & Empowerment
After every event, I have the opportunity to sit and talk with the students and educators. In one of those conversations, a student expressed how they were struggling to be a supportive hand to everyone else while they are still dealing with their own internal conflict. How do you tell a them that they are worthy and everything will be okay? How do you tell them to it's not selfish to focus on themselves? You remind them that its okay to not be okay and to focus on their journey and story. This student needed to hear this as it was evident in their breakdown. These are real conversations with these students and what is happening in real time for them. These kids are feeling real emotions about who they are and what they were created to do. It's important for them to know that they have a purpose and that even though it can be heavy and can feel lonely, we are here to support them. The journey continues as we continue to impact the youth and guide them to be their best selves. Comment 'YouTube' to get the link to our channel. For educators looking to bring Y.B.
