Our hope is you are looking forward to celebrating with family and friends this Independence Day! As such, we at GovStrive made time to do the same by enjoying pie and ice cream in support of a local fundraising effort. Whatever your plans may be, may you take time to celebrate the blessing, acknowledge the sacrifice, and embrace the opportunity of freedom. From all of us at GovStrive, Happy Fourth!

Happy Feast of St. Homobonus – Patron Saint of Business! Let us pray, Beloved and charitable St. Homobonus your honesty and goodwill served your community and the Lord well. Help me follow your example and not give in to temptations of greed and easy shortcuts that wound others. I ask for guidance in my work, so that I may prosper by choosing virtue over avarice. Amen.

When Sal and June came to us, they wanted to go into retirement, but were worried if they would have enough to live off while supporting their children and the charitable causes important to them. We helped them design a transition into retirement that addressed their major concerns and showed them that they had enough to start checking off items that were on their bucket list. https://buff.ly/3XO2FO5 #FinancialPlanning #PlannedGiving #LegacyPlanning

A thoughtful piece about reframing our mindset on how we fund non-profit work. As someone who has worked in the non-profit sector for more than 20 years, I frequently tell people non-profits are businesses, and there is a cost of doing non-profit business (overhead) just as there is in for-profit business.
Development/Advancement Human Services Leader: Delivering Operational and Fiscal Excellence through a Social Justice Lens
Often times in fundraising, we talk with people very concerned about their dollars going directly to the constituents we are serving (people, animals, etc), rather than “overhead”. It can be frustrating as well as demeaning to the work of the NFP. Just like I explain to my children, our household budget must include our utilities and mortgage and services that are critical to maintaining our home. It cannot only be used for their personal clothes or the food they individually eat, or the fun activities in which they participate. Good organizations must keep their full infrastructure strong. I often reflect on Darren Walker’s (Ford Foundation), interviews to support and bring legitimacy to my own feelings and work. “It is both arrogant and ignorant to believe you can give money to an organization for your project, and not be concerned about the infrastructure that makes your project possible“. -Darren Walker His new book, From Generosity to Justice: A New Gospel of Wealth, is one I am looking forward to reading! And here is one of the interviews I really enjoy. https://lnkd.in/gNzSpFtb

“It’s a lot more fun to give while you’re alive, than to give while you’re dead.” RIP Chuck Feeney - the American-Irish entrepreneur and philanthropist who has died, aged 92. In 1982 Feeney decided to devote his substantial wealth to the service of humanity and over his lifetime gave away more than $8billion in grants, most of it anonymously - leading Forbes to dub him 'The James Bond' of giving. Feeney championed Giving While Living, firmly believing that wealthy people had an obligation to give. In 2012 Forbes wrote: "The lesson that Feeney wanted to teach younger philanthropists: Don't wait to give your money away when you're old or, even worse, dead. Instead, make substantial donations while you still have the energy, connections and influence to make waves. 'People who have money have an obligation,' he said." The belief that people of wealth should use it to better the world during their lifetimes was a driving influence in the work of Feeney's foundation The Atlantic Philanthropies which decided in 2002 to limit Atlantic’s life to a fixed term making its final grant commitments at the end of 2016 and closed its doors in 2020. Over 38 years, it invested over $8 billion in programs, people and places in order to create greater opportunity, fairness and equity. Many of the grants were “big bets” designed to bring lasting improvements to people’s lives.
