One of my many proud mom moments is when my son, Greg, invited his friend with special needs to his 10th birthday party. It was the first invitation for the boy, bringing tears to his mom's eyes. When I asked Greg if he noticed any differences, his response warmed my heart: "Sure, mom, we're all different, and that's okay." 😊 In that moment, I realized what a beautiful spirit he possesses, and how honored I was to be his mom. 💝 👩 Whether you're a new mom, a seasoned mom pro, or a mother figure, you make a difference in your child's life and the world a better place. Today is the sixth anniversary of my mom’s death. I miss her every single day. In honor of her legacy, I’m sharing five of my top learnings from her: #1: Love trumps everything else. Spend your time with the people you love the most. Leadership is love in action. Friendship is the purest love. Love means answering the phone - no matter the hour or how long it has been since you’ve talked. #2: “Always, follow your heart’s desire.” Your heart - not your brain - should be your strongest driving force. #3: Don’t wait for the “perfect moment,” do it now. Tell someone how you feel; wear the fancy dress to dinner in your own kitchen; drink the good wine. Life is short. Joy costs nothing - sing at the top of your lungs, have dance parties in the living room, and give lots of big hugs. #4: You don’t need to know all of the answers, but you do need to know where to go or who to talk with to find the information. Libraries are the most sacred place. Investing in your own education and learning is always worth it. #5: And always do what you’re going to say you’re going to do. Your word is golden. People count on you. Love you, Mommy. Hope I'm making you proud.

As my son’s 11th birthday is coming up, here are 11 pieces of advice for him that I hope would resonate with you, too: 1. There’s a way out of every problem. You must be able to know when it’s time to ask someone for help. 2. Even the worst day cannot last more than 24 hours. 3. Advertising is not for real. No product will make one’s life perfect or guarantee happiness. The only one who can decide on what makes you happy is YOU. 4. Every word we speak affects others. With unkind words, less is more. With uplifting words, more is more. 5. You’re writing your own story every day. How do you want to be remembered? 6. Hand-write thank you notes. This gesture means you appreciate the person enough to sit down and write. 7. Look at the bright light. Squint if needed. 8. Always be connected with your life’s purpose, it’s usually one that makes you feel blissfully alive. 9. Make sure you’re never the reason someone feels bad. 10. Hang in there.
