Film productions outside the Halifax region will benefit from additional funding through the Nova Scotia Film & Television Production Incentive Fund. The Distant Location Incentive was developed to address higher production costs incurred outside of the Halifax region and to encourage film producers to expand their projects into rural areas. Under the new two-tiered incentive: - productions filmed more than 100 kilometres from Halifax City Hall will receive up to a seven per cent incentive on total eligible Nova Scotia costs. - productions filmed more than 150 kilometres from Halifax City Hall will receive up to a 10 per cent incentive on total eligible Nova Scotia costs. It doesn’t take £3m to make a first feature (as the heads at BBC Film and Film Four suggest) - and the idea it does makes it difficult for new voices to be heard. We spent (roughly) 1/30th of that budget to make Lapwing and had a UK cinema release and digital release across the US and Europe. If we had any more money it would have been spent on supporting our release which was the area most impacted by a lower budget. So yes, more money would have been great. But the idea it must cost millions to make a feature does not come from independent filmmakers - I can name multiple excellent films made for a fraction of that. So what are we optimising for? Better stories? More adventurous filmmakers? Developing talent? If we were doing that, we would make more, faster, and allow unique voices to develop in a space where risk and play is actually encouraged. I can tell you with certainty that Lapwing would never have happened if it needed £3m to get started and that would mean the talent involved would still be waiting for a chance to shoot something longer than a short. Show me someone with £3m to invest, and I’ll direct them to 10 exceptional projects that can be shot and still leave them with change. https://lnkd.in/edi-ybQD

Key Lessons of Film Journalism: 01 Even a film earning 100 Cr. or 200 Cr. in theatres can not be called a hit film unless these earnings are compared with its COP, COM, Cast Fee and PnA. Reason? A producer only gets 35-40 percent of what a film earns in domestic market. For a film to become hit, it should earn 100 percent profit (double of its budget), for a super hit 200 percent profit and for a blockbuster, it should earn 300 percent profit at domestic box office. COP: Cost of Production COM: Cost Of Money (how much one should have earned if the money put in making a film was invested in interest market) PnA : Print and Advertising Cost Continued..

"Paranormal Activity" is a prime example of how creativity and originality can transcend budgetary constraints. Made with an initial budget of around $15,000, this independent horror film utilized the found footage style to create a tense and realistic atmosphere, reducing the need for expensive special effects or lavish sets. Its success at film festivals and subsequent word-of-mouth buzz led it to be acquired by Paramount Pictures and receive a wide release, ultimately grossing over $193 million worldwide. This not only showcased the potential profitability of low-budget filmmaking but also emphasized the importance of a compelling story and innovative storytelling techniques. #CleverstreetFilms #LowBudgetHighImpact #ParanormalActivitySuccess #FoundFootagePhenomenon #BudgetFilmBreakthrough #HorrorHits #CinematicInnovation #From15kToMillions
