🇪🇺 "Europe cannot just be the cradle for new solutions, what is born here should also grow up and stay here” said Executive Vice-President of the Commission Margrethe Vestager. At GOURMEY, we couldn't agree more. As a UE-born pioneer in the field of food biomanufacturing, we were delighted to see yesterday's published “Communication on Biotech and Biomanufacturing” by the European Commission. It is very encouraging and a long-awaited signal for our industry to witness the Commission set out an ambitious vision for Biotech and Biomanufacturing in Europe. We second EuropaBio - the European Association for Bioindustries' message that we need to move quickly from “rhetoric into policy and legislation action for competitiveness, enabling innovators to thrive and grow, and creating long-term investment into infrastructures, employment and skills in Europe.” As a member of EuropaBio, Cellular Agriculture Europe, Start Industrie and France Deeptech, we will engage with policymakers and other stakeholders such as the EU Biosolutions coalition in the French and European ecoystems to support the translation of the communication into legislation and regulation, such as an EU Biotech Act. #biotech #biomanufacturing #EUBioAct

🎄 Today has been a bit like Christmas eve for EU biosolutions aficionados like me. 🔬Because today, the European Commission presented its “Communication on Biotech and Biomanufacturing” and with that a series of actions to boost biosolutions, biotech and biomanufacturing in the EU, thus fulfilling the promise made by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in her State of the European Union speech in September 2023. Biosolutions hold tremendous potential according to the European Commission – Now is the time to unleash that potential🌱   📄 Among the Commission’s set of actions are: - Simplified regulatory framework and faster access to market, including launching a study that could lay the foundations for a possible EU Biotech Act. - Better support for scale-up and ease of navigating regulations. - Foster a larger market for biotechnology and biomanufacturing. - Enable fair comparison with fossil-based products. - Encourage more investments.   We welcome these actions and are very pleased with the prospects of an EU Bio Act. This shows how quickly biosolutions are moving up on the EU’s agenda. That is fantastic and something we are proud to contribute to!🙌   🇪🇺As Executive Vice-President of the Commission Mrs Margrethe Vestager said at the press conference “Europe cannot just be the cradle for new solutions, what is born here should also grow up and stay here”. B is for Biosolutions 🌱 and B is for Berlin 🌱 The potential of Biosolutions was clearly recognized in Berlin, Germany this week, where our partner, BIO Deutschland co-organised, a diverse group of stakeholders across ministries, companies, research, and organisations to discuss how biosolutions can strengthen Europe’s sustainability, resilience and competitiveness. Companies from Germany and Denmark AMSilk GmbH | Biotech Materials, @Planet A Food, Corden BioChem GmbH, Innocent Meat , Matr Foods, Novonesis, clearly showed that the solutions are already there, but ⛔ regulatory red tape need to be removed 🔨 large scale up facilities build, and 💰 finance made available for them to stay and/or grow in Europe. The importance was underscored by Dr. Christine Lang, member of the Coalition’s governance board who stated: “We must do everything we can to preserve our livelihoods while remaining economically strong and independent. Biosolutions are the appropriate key to this. DI aims to provide the best possible corporate conditions for the member companies. Danish Industry represents both small and large companies from almost all industries. Our second Biomanufacturing Policy Summit, this year making the links between policy and biomanufacturing capability and capacity. It's been very effective to address biotech from the product back, rather than the technology forward, so that people can see how biotech plays a role in the products that they already have as well as the unique innovations that can only be delivered through biotech.
