🌍 Exciting News! 🏛️ Preserving Legacies, led by National Geographic Society Explorer Victoria Herrmann, is expanding its mission to safeguard natural and cultural heritage against climate change impacts. Welcoming 11 new heritage sites and custodians from around the globe, this initiative aims to protect our shared legacy for future generations. These new heritage sites, spanning 6 continents, will participate in an interactive training and adaptation program to understand, visualize, and mitigate climate change impacts on their cultural treasures. From the Kherlen River Basin in Mongolia to the Rock of Cashel in Ireland, diverse sites are uniting to combat climate threats. Partnering with organizations like the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and the Climate Heritage Network, Preserving Legacies is empowering communities to take proactive measures in preserving their heritage. World Environment Day 2024 Map-A-Thon Results We understand that reforestation is one of the most important and accessible ways that people can contribute to solving the challenges of climate change. As part of the observance of World Environment Day 2024, YouthMappers initiated a two-week-long Map-A-Thon. This online crowd-sourced mapping event, using the OpenStreetMap platform, focused on the science of where, blending with community based afforestation. For each 100 unique map features added by remote tracing in Bangladesh to the OSM platform, we will plant a tree! So, the more you map, the healthier our environment will become. Achievements: - Mapped Buildings: 27,918 - Trees to be Planted: 280 Top Contributors three contributors of Youthmappers at RU: 1.Md Mahiur Rahman Yousha 2.Puspita Talukder 3.Sumaiya Akter Alo Thank you Youthmappers at RU for this opportunities.I will try to contribute better in the future.

We are the first to witness the collapse of our ecosystems and could be the last to see their revival. We see actions on multiple fronts, but yet not scaled enough to bring back the resilience we need for the future we want. Despite much debate, misinformation, ignorance, misinterpretations, and misuse of the issue, we are failing to maintain the integrity of our ecosystems. While there are significant financial flows benefiting people and organizations, it is not delivering strong and widespread outcomes which are substantial enough to address the core issue. This year’s World Environment Day campaign focuses on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience under the slogan "Our Land. Our Future. We are #GenerationRestoration." As we embark on the Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), we need to scale up our actions to restore and protect both degraded and intact ecosystems. The science is very clear! We are falling short of the Sustainable Development Agenda, the Paris Climate Targets, and have overstepped many planetary boundaries.
