From the heart. Like education, design is an opportunity. Be it through art, science, math, or music, an education gives us a chance to apply what we know to better the world around us in meaningful ways. Likewise, through enhanced form, function, and engagement, good design is also devoted to making our experience in the world better. Katy Lucas gets it. As a senior interior designer at GMC, she’s been involved in developing K-12 educational facilities for nearly 20 years. She shares the importance of maximizing the impact of educational spaces in any and every way possible. 🔗 Learn more about the design team’s approach in the full article from Learning by Design: https://bit.ly/4clFOBR #buildingcommunities #gmcnetwork #GMCAlabama #GMCBirmingham #interiordesign #education

My education at the European Higher School of Art and Design (EDS) was a transformative experience, teaching me that the spaces we inhabit daily are more than just structures. They embody a creative blend of colors, textures, and materials that inspire and create a sense of belonging. At EDS, I developed the skill to harmoniously combine these elements, a capability that wasn't innate but meticulously nurtured through a rigorous Interior Design program, leveraging 14 years of specialized educational expertise. The curriculum was heavily focused on practical skills, immersing students in hands-on learning experiences. It provided a comprehensive view of architecture through the lens of design, enabling me to undertake full-fledged projects, master modern software tools, and immerse myself in the interior design world. This included visits to design exhibitions, furniture manufacturing sites, networking with potential clients, collaborating with contractors, and securing initial commissions. Upon graduating from EDS, I was well-prepared to design spaces from scratch, whether for personal or commercial use, find clients independently, join design studios, and even achieve recognition early in my career. My education equipped me with a profound understanding of the current market's challenges and investment opportunities, paving the way for some of us to open our businesses or become leading voices in the design community, often returning as mentors or speakers at EDS. The program emphasized the practical application of design principles, ensuring I could create designs that resonated with contemporary trends and artistic sensibilities. I learned to creatively address compositional, stylistic, and ergonomic challenges, visualize my design projects both manually and digitally, and build professional relationships within the design environment. Understanding client psychology and fostering effective communication became second nature, enabling me to kickstart my portfolio and embark on my own design business journey. This educational journey at EDS was not just about acquiring design skills; it was about embracing a new way of seeing the world and translating that vision into spaces that reflect individuality, functionality, and aesthetic harmony. #InteriorDesign #DesignEducation #EuropeanDesignSchool #3DVisualization #SpacePlanning #DesignTrends #ProfessionalDevelopment #CreativeDesign #DesignInnovation #ArchitectureAndDesign

Education spaces like the Lipscomb Academy library are prioritizing design around new ways of learning and collaboration. The flooring sets the tone for movement and creativity with its large-scale pattern in this collaborative educational setting. The choice of soft materials provides reduced background distraction, with noise absorption qualities to help quiet spaces. These key considerations for selecting educational flooring can help optimize learning and contribute to more efficient working environments. https://bit.ly/3MH5o9q #educationdesign #educationflooring #classroomdesign #educationinteriors #carpetdesign #commercialinteriors

Some of you know about my work with Qpractice. Others of you may be asking, what is Qpractice? Qpractice is where I now spend my days (and even some nights and weekends) helping Interior Designers of all types, markets, and experience levels earn their NCIDQ Certification. Why is that important? Because the NCIDQ is the first step in being legally recognized as a competent Interior Deisgner in more than 50% of the USA and most of Canada. And it's recognized around the globe, too. But again, why Qpractice? It's the top online study course and community to prep interior designers to pass the NCIDQ Exam. And again why? Because I love every minute of it, and wouldn't want to be doing anything else right now in life. It's where I can give back to my vocation, and help elevate more great designers. And still keep sharp on what makes legal Interior Design recognition so important to the public;. To learn more about Qpractice, check out these great YouTube videos featuring my now Qpractice colleague: Bri, who Qpractice helped succeed in her own journey to becoming NCIDQ Certification. Go to: https://lnkd.in/gtgZh4Ga And then reach out to Qpractice at "[email protected]" with your questions. We'll be happy to help you start the great adventure of NCIDQ Certification and create a passion for life-long learning.

As I approach the end of my 40th year in the industry, I took a chance to look at some of my degree work. It may now seem raw and naive in comparison to the quality of visual presentation we can now achieve, but it reminded me that at it’s core, whilst design tools and to an extent design philosophy can evolve, a fundamental desire to interpret those things that influence us as designers is an ever present and essential part of what we do. The physical spaces we create have to come from the very source of our being if they are to have the power to influence and shape the experience of others, and inevitably reflect not only our personality but also our interpretation of that of our clients as well as those who will use the buildings and places we create. I still love the bit by bit unveiling of the creative outcome, but I’ve learned that understanding and harnessing the knowledge that enables us to to enjoy and influence the journey is equally as important, not just for ourselves, but also all those involved along the way. We are our own past, present and future. #reflections #influences #inspiration #architecturedesign #lookingbacktoseethefuture #thankyoufortheexperience #alwayslearning

Take a sneak peek at our latest project – a classroom design that brings the adventure of an African Safari into the learning environment! Designed by MOYA Design Partners, this classroom rendering showcases a vibrant and stimulating space where education meets exploration. The room is bathed in natural light, highlighting the playful safari-themed mural that spans an entire wall, creating an inviting backdrop for young minds to dream and learn. The hexagonal lighting fixtures resemble a modern take on a starry sky, while the wooden furniture adds a touch of nature's simplicity and strength. From the cozy reading nook with plush seating to the interactive learning areas, every corner is crafted to inspire creativity and curiosity. This is where the future of education begins – not just learning about the world, but feeling a part of it. #MOYAInteriors #InnovativeDesign #LearningSpaces #ClassroomDesign #EducationalEnvironments #MOYADesignPartners #AfricanSafariTheme #CreativeClassrooms #FutureOfEducation #InspiringInteriors #DesignThinking #EducationDesign #NatureInspired #SustainableDesign #YoungMinds #PlayfulLearning #LearningAdventure #InteractiveLearning #ClassroomGoals #DesignForEducation #SmartClassroom #EcoFriendlyDesign
