The job/hiring market has been challenging lately! Many are comparing it to the great recession 2008-2010 and Covid 2021-2022. Both times we learned that companies holding off on hiring to "wait and see" resulted in a huge talent shortage when the cycle turned. Many talented individuals with years left of productivity decided it was time to retire during these periods, resulting in shrinking talent supply. When hiring budgets were reinstated and existing employees were wary covering the jobs of multiple people...the results were "The Great Resignation" and scrambling employers! Job seekers had the upper hand as they were in huge demand. Offers were coming in within 24 hours of first interview or the candidate was scooped up by the competitors. Job seekers learned they could create bidding wars and employers were regretting their "wait and see" strategy that burned out their loyal employees. REALLY?! Are we going to repeat this cycle a 3rd time in 2024-2025?

While this might come off as flexible and eager, it can also seem desperate or lacking in focus. Recruiters want candidates to know themselves well enough to establish a clear sense of what they can offer and how that aligns with the specific needs of the position — not someone who is willing to jump at any opportunity. I need a new employee to fill in this position in 2 weeks MAXIMUM. Urgent hirings can be very inefficient and unsuccessful. Especially if you leave the job position open for more than 2 weeks. Storing applicants in databases and fitting them in projects they seem more applicable for their experience is one thing. And leading applicants on to keep applying continuously for a long period of time is another. Gather applicants, filter out the best fits, interview them, sign a contract, and recruit.
