We were honored to partner with Amazon to assemble 3,000 hygiene kits for the Seattle area. This initiative was a joint effort with Amazon Worldwide Returns and ReCommerce (WWRR) DEI Council, NAMI and The Moore Wright Group. Together, we aimed to close the need gap and bring much-needed awareness, alignment, and achievement for the non-physical disabilities' community. Thank you to everyone who participated in making a difference! #CommunityImpact #Partnership #DEI #NonPhysicalDisabilities #Good360 #Amazon

It is possible to make change to create a safe place for people to request accessibility. Yes, even in an established company like Amazon as Elaine KA shares here. The gem is in her reply to my question about what they did to make change. Here's what Elaine shared in the comments. - tapping into an existing team-wide mechanism where people are expected to be in attendance. Centering the discussion on accessibility and disability inclusion sends the message that it’s a team-wide priority. - opening up with human stories. This is powerful and not explored enough IMO (in my opinion). - moderators and other speakers admitting it’s a journey for everyone including themselves. It leaves space for exploration and growth. People are less afraid of “saying the wrong thing” and frozen in action. - details on how the applicable team has or will take action for the community. Shows commitment and trajectory. Thank you, Elaine. I hope y'all give it a try. You don't have to be a top executive to effect change like this. #Accessibility #Inclusion #MerylMots
Social Impact at Amazon | Columbia | Public Speaker building Community Partnerships for Impact Brand Purpose.
At Amazon, part of my work is evangelizing #accessibility and showing other teams how they can help advance efforts. Recently, I was asked to present to one team... #PublicPolicy. Thanks to an invite from Virginia Ross, I joined Lauren C. Lobrano and Kristine Hackman on presenting to over 60 colleagues across the U.S. on disability inclusion and accessibility. The result? Multiple people coming forward disclosing either they have a disability, or someone they know. And they want to do more. We created a safe space for people to disclose and for people to take action. Accessibility relates to...all teams.

Disability Pride Month is celebrated every July and is an opportunity to honor the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disability community. July has been chosen to commemorate the July 1990 passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Disabilities are part of the tapestry of human diversity, and something that nearly all of us will experience at some point in our lives. It’s also a significant part of one’s identity that defines how many experience and contribute to the world. Yet people with disabilities have been marginalized and misunderstood for generations. All disabilities and their intersecting identities should be acknowledged, valued, and respected. I’m proud to be a part of a company that works hard to ensure everyone has a place. To develop the Global Resource Centre (GRC), Amazon.in partnered with Sarthak Education Trust, a renowned non-profit organisation that advocates for people with disabilities (PWDs). The center’s mission is to #empower those with disabilities throughout India. It was opened in the presence of Hon. Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar. Amazon’s partnership with Sarthak Education Trust (SET) #advances disability inclusion and empowerment. Collaboration transforms, and the Global Resource Centre will have a global influence. The GRC’s effective programmes will build capacity in #technology, e-commerce, logistics, and more to equip disabled people for the digital economy. An essential aspect of the programme, the Rozgarsarthi app matches disabled candidates with Amazon and other opportunities. Amazon also teaches disabled persons English, offers mobile devices, up to INR 20,000 per month, and helps with travel and lodging. Amazon is guided by four principles: #customer obsession rather than competitor focus, passion for invention, commitment to operational excellence, and long-term thinking. Amazon strives to be Earth’s Most Customer-Centric Company, Earth’s Best Employer, and Earth’s Safest Place to Work.
