Today, as I came up the stairs at our office, this sight came into view: a bold Pride flag. It captured how I was feeling today. I am so proud of my country’s democracy, diversity and our people’s commitment to its constitution. It makes me very hopeful for India’s journey of progress and inclusivity. Like many others, I’m familiar with the rainbow flag of gay liberation, and I’ve seen some of the other colours on this particular iteration of the flag before. I love that this new flag, with its ingenious design, includes a golden-yellow triangle with a purple circle signifies the inclusion of intersex people; blue, white and pink arrows to signify transgender liberation; and black and brown to mark the struggles of racial minorities, which resonates in India with the struggles of historically excluded groups, including Dalit, Bahujan and Adivasi communities. I would like to think that at Godrej, we’ve always been anti-discrimination. But truthfully, Pride has been a journey for us, too. Over a decade ago, Parmesh Shahani had to point out to us that the use of the word “partner” on medical benefits claims would allow us to extend care policies to queer Godrejites and their loved ones in the way the legalised, heterosexual word “spouse” does not (or not yet, at least, in India). We’ve travelled a considerable distance from then to this month, when the group releases its revised policies to cover healthcare for transgender employees more comprehensively than ever before. Every business at the group is celebrating Pride, with workshops on allyship, queer counselling sessions, career fairs, theatre and film screenings –– and, I’m told, at least one giant party. I will rejoice in this moment as a reminder that we must always have the courage to do better and serve each other with love and dignity. Parmesh Shahani Supriya Nair GodrejDEI Lab

As an outsider, I can confirm that every word you’ve written is absolutely true. The culture and spirit of inclusion at Godrej, the understanding and empowerment of diversity and the resonance of purpose as a promise is very very inspiring. Nisaba Godrej mam, thank you for being the champion and a living example of the understanding that care and commitment are two sides of the same coin. Really inspired to catch a glimpse of you and the culture at Godrej today. Parmesh Shahani thank you for doing all the work that you do every day of your life, no matter where you are, and what your role is defined. And with such energy, liveliness and frolic!

The thing that I love so much about Godrej group is how loud it is in its Allyship.
Godrej has been a fine example of this progressive thinking and action, for quite a while now. The world is learning from you!!
So heartening to see that inclusivity is now being represented in the flag to Include much more - including the socio-economically, racially and indigenous marginalized people …. To a brave new India indeed .
Liberating, is the thought which you have instilled through setting up processes, beliefs and demonstrating conviction. I have followed the DEi series lectures and how you have assisted in breaking barrier's. Kudos to your leadership Nisa.
NICE!
