This morning, our staff visited the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility to witness the departure of Artemis II, which is set to bring the first woman and person of color to the moon in 2025. The five Artemis missions represent an investment of $93 billion, with 90% of each rocket constructed at Michoud, solidifying New Orleans East as a critical hub for space exploration. Michoud employs more than 3,000 people in the Greater New Orleans region. ⚜️🚀

Last week, we celebrated the closing ceremony of the 2024 GNOrocs Innovation Internship at the New Orleans BioInnovation Center. Our 24 interns from local universities worked at various STEM companies, including labs, engineering firms, construction companies, and tech startups. A wind turbine and its components have arrived at Avondale Global Gateway (AGG) after a transatlantic journey from Ireland. According to the USGS’s Wind Turbine Database, this will be the first turbine to be installed in Louisiana. Gulf Wind Technology, headquartered at AGG, said it is preparing the onshore turbine for installation at the Port Fourchon Coastal Wetlands Park. More: https://bit.ly/3XRdxyy

The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport - MSY will see two new routes to major cities ahead of Super Bowl LIX. Breeze Airways™ will launch a new nonstop route from New Orleans to Las Vegas starting Feb. 5, 2025, days before the Caesars Superdome hosts Super Bowl LIX. The airline will also re-launch its New Orleans to Los Angeles route in the near future. Breeze now flies 15 flights from MSY. More: https://bit.ly/4bTGiOB

The $1B River District project has secured a crucial federal grant, advancing the start of construction for subsidized housing. This initiative is one of 19 in Louisiana to receive funds from a $230M CDBG Disaster Recovery program, which supports affordable housing development following hurricanes Laura, Delta, and Ida. This weekend, Essence Festival proudly celebrated its 30th year in New Orleans. Essence Magazine’s marquee celebration, held during the first weekend of each July, is a beloved tradition that embodies the heart and soul of New Orleans, drawing visitors from all over the world. This year the event marked three decades of celebrating African American culture, music, and community. Essence Festival is also a major economic boost for the New Orleans region.
