New Orleans has seen a 50% drop in homicides since 2022, including a 71% reduction in juvenile homicides since 2023. New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick credits this success to collaboration between local, state, and federal officials, and the implementation of Operation Ceasefire, adapted locally as GRIP (Gun Reduction Intervention Plan). This strategic approach targets repeat offenders, combining enforcement with a holistic, public health focus to disrupt cycles of violent crime.

Last week, GNO, Inc.’s Executive Board traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with our Louisiana Congressional delegation, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Director Liz Klein, and White House Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young, discussing key initiatives like energy, urban and rural development, flood insurance, infrastructure, trade, workforce development, coastal restoration, and public safety. Woodland Biofuels Inc. announced a planned $1.35 billion investment at the Port of South Louisiana to establish one of the world’s largest renewable biofuels production facilities. The Toronto-based company would utilize waste biomass to produce sustainable biofuel used in transportation, heating and electricity generation. The project aims to create 110 high-paying jobs and 500 construction jobs, all while prioritizing sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.
