The Colorado Staffing Association (Official) had our Annual Conference and Owners Retreat last week at the beautiful Halcyon Hotel in Cherry Creek, Denver. All of us on the CSA Board, including our President, Adrian Dominguez, our Treasurer, Trish Bowen-Banister, M.Ed., our Industry Partner/Membership Chair, Josh Brubaker and myself, Legislative Chair, (the Staffing Chihuahua) put in many hours to make this event as perfect as it could be for our Members and Industry Partners and our hard work paid off in a BIG WAY because it was the best one we've EVER had! We had the BEST Speakers this year, Donnie Gupton 🦅, Dr. Chris Mullen, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, Brad Bialy and Richard D Rosner that taught us about trending A.I. techniques, developing our personal brands, being better at LIFE, generating Sales and Job Orders, and getting us out of our seats and unleashing our potential! Jay Hicks speaking gave us the push we needed to get more involved with our local legislators to keep the Colorado Staffing Industry represented, and with so many bills being passed that hurt our Staffing Industry, this is SO IMPORTANT! We had the pleasure of presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to Ruth Hollins, who has been in the Industry over 40 years. It was so amazing to hear the story of her life and career, and see her staff and family at the conference celebrating her accomplishments! We also had the pleasure of presenting the Staffing Employee of the Year Award to Merlinda Sandoval, a Recruiter with over 28 years in Staffing who always goes above and beyond for candidates who might not had a chance otherwise. I was asked recently if being on the CSA Board added to my business financially, and while I don't get business from it (technically, we're competitors). I honestly believe it's an invaluable relationship that helps me run my business, better! Not only can I call on other Staffing Owners to ask for confidential advice when I have issues, but I have the best Industry Partners at hand for anything I need to run my business. It's also great to network with others in the same Industry and know that it's not just me that's crazy, it's our Industry. (OK, maybe a little me!) Gather round...this has been on my mind for a little bit. After being a part of close to 100 phone calls with staffing firms of all sizes this quarter, I'm starting to notice: • We don't know what differentiates us. • We don't know our true value. • We don't know our specific value to our clients. • We don't know what makes us unique. And if we DO know these four items in the C-Suite, it's not being cascaded down to our sales team or our junior team members. With that, when we're calling on prospects or we're working with candidates...we sound the exact same as every other staffing firm they've spoken with in the past. Observing this industry now for over 10 years, I've come to realize one very important detail...The barrier to entry to being different (and uniquely you) is VERY low. So I would challenge you as we head into 2024: • Be different • Be unique • Be yourself And effectively communicate that to your prospects and candidates.
