📢 Fortescue accelerates action on the global #3xRenewabels target Fortescue, one of the sector’s leading players, has earned its reputation from success in establishing the building blocks for the global renewable energy value chain, developing breakthrough green technology for trucks, trains, planes, ships, electrolysers, solar, cables, wind, batteries, hydrogen fuel cells, and the digital industry, and having pledged $1.1bn in green energy projects last year. Now, the company has joined GRA’s #Time4Action campaign to drive progress on the global target to triple renewable energy by 2030. “Climate targets set in the next 12 months will be the last which can meaningfully alter the damaging emissions trajectory the world is on. By Baku, we want to see companies bringing updated transition plans that are properly aligned to 1.5 degrees, and we need to see countries significantly enhancing their ambition to meet the temperature goals of the #ParisAgreement,” said Mark Hutchinson, Energy CEO at Fortescue. “It is for that reason that Fortescue is resolutely committed to the Global Renewables Alliance and its goals in the lead up to COP29. We look forward to a year of practical action and to demonstrating how our zero-emissions solutions can promote a secure and prosperous world.” Learn more about #3xRenewables and GRA’s #Time4Action campaign: https://lnkd.in/dbvUU6BC GRA members Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) Ben Backwell | Global Solar Council (GSC) Sonia Dunlop | International Hydropower Association (IHA) Eddie Rich | Long Duration Energy Storage Council (LDES Council) Julia Souder | Green Hydrogen Organisation - GH2 Jonas Moberg | International Geothermal Association Marit Brommer | Bruce Douglas

Green hydrogen is a key element in the global energy transition and offers new, cost-efficient decarbonization solutions in a variety of sectors. Pattern's experience and expertise in developing large-scale greenfield energy projects position us to successfully participate in the green fuels market. One of our investments is Argentia Renewables with the Port of Argentia in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The multi-phase development project includes utilizing the regions’ outstanding wind resources to produce cost-competitive green fuels for exporting to global markets. Through electrolysis, a world-class hydrogen electrolyzer facility will produce carbon-free ammonia, which can be safely stored and shipped to customers worldwide. Happy to share my story on the journey to position Newfoundland & Labrador and Canada at the forefront of the green energy transition. We are uniquely positioned to capitalize on this opportunity because we possess all the key ingredients to safely, respectfully and professionally produce green hydrogen from renewable wind energy. I call it Hydrogen 101 and it includes: Energy…wind (one of the best untapped onshore wind resources in the world); Land…Newfoundland & Labrador's land mass is 88% crown lands; Access to markets…World Energy GH2 acquired the Port of Stephenville, a deep water, ice free port strategically located to access local markets, as well as those in North American and Europe; Skilled labour force...Newfoundland & Labrador has the skilled and experienced work force, both at home and abroad, to drive the renewable energy transition; Water...Newfoundland & Labrador enjoys an abundance of fresh water and our site will utilize the commercial water source of the former pulp and paper mill in Stephenville; Community Support...we have engaged with residents of the West Coast of the Province and with our Indigenous communities from the earliest stages of our project. We will continue to work with these communities to ensure concerns are heard and addressed and that benefits are realized. In consultation with local communities, First Nations and area residents, World Energy GH2 aims to deliver economic activity, meaningful jobs and regional prosperity, all while respecting the environment and waging the war against #climatechange. We are all in this together...as I always say "if you want to go fast, go alone…if you want to go far, go together". How will our green hydrogen or green ammonia be used? There may be many answers depending on demand and market conditions, but the possibilities are endless and include: Green Iron & Steel Production Green Aviation Fuels Green Chemicals Green Power Generation Green Fertilizer Green Marine Fuel Our job is not to dictate the end use at this stage of development. Our job is to ensure that Newfoundland & Labrador's natural resources are used to meet whatever demand arises in an effort to reduce the negative impacts of climate change. I distill it down to this simple mission statement... Don’t predict the future, enable it. #energytransition #greeneconomy #greenenergy #newfoundlandandlabrador
"This is a chance for Newfoundland and Labrador to have first mover advantage in probably one of the fastest emerging global industries in the world. That opportunity is not something you're going to get every day of the week." - Brendan Paddick, Partner, World Energy GH2 The partners behind Project Nujio'qonik describe the vision for Canada's first wind-to-hydrogen project proposed for the west coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. Project Nujio'qonik aims to be Canada's first commercial green hydrogen / ammonia producer created from 3 Gigawatts of wind energy in one of the world's best wind resource regions. #greenenergy #greenfuels #greenhydrogen #greenammonia #newfoundlandandlabrador Video series by Up Sky Down Films

2000 Days and 6800 GW Away from 2030 - It’s #Time4Action World leaders have committed to tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030. Today marks exactly 2000 days until this pivotal year. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)'s latest statistics reveal a 14% growth in renewable capacity for 2023, showcasing an exponential increase. However, this growth is still insufficient. If we continue at the current pace, the world will fall 1500 GW short of the target. Should the historic growth rate of 10.0% since 2017 persist, we will miss the target by a staggering 3700 GW (32.6%). It’s #Time4Action. We must unlock the full potential of renewable energy and accelerate the clean energy transition. “The industry is ready to deliver, the technologies are mature and competitive. Now, policymakers must seize the opportunity and create the enabling environment, allowing us to build the turbines, the dams, and the panels that will generate those 11,000 renewable gigawatts, leading us into a clean, secure, and just energy future,” said GRA’s CEO, Bruce Douglas. In partnership with IRENA and numerous champion governments and organisations, GRA and Bloomberg Philanthropies are hosting the Global Renewables Summit this September to accelerate action on the global #3xRenewables target.
