𝐒𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄 - 14th Dii Desert Energy Leadership Summit comes to Europe! 📅 15-16 October 2024 📍 Garden Palace Liechtenstein, Vienna, Austria 𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆: Via unprecedented cooperation and partnerships Building on the urgent call to meet net-zero targets at last years summit, the 14th Dii Desert Energy Leadership Summit will return to Europe after several years in MENA. Vienna is a highly symbolic place for partnerships: the gateway to Eastern Europe and centre of the Southern import route for zero-emission energy to Europe. Under the theme ‘Trillions for Tripling’ referring to the goal of tripling renewables and energy efficiency by 2030, this year’s edition will discuss some of the technologies along the emission free value chain needed to execute ‘Tripling’ as well as highlight MENA efforts and achievements in green energy production, conversion, trade and end-use with a particular focus on the privileged relation between MENA and EU. 🔋 Powering Up: OWI CREATE set to transform offshore wind after summer! 🌊💡 We're thrilled to announce that "OWI CREATE" has secured funding from the @Energy Transition Fund (ETF) by FOD Economie / SPF Economie / FPS Economy. 🚀 Over the next three years, this project will supercharge the Belgian offshore wind sector by advancing knowledge and expertise within the R&D community. Under the OWI-Lab brand, OWI CREATE will unify RD&I initiatives in offshore wind power, floating solar energy, and offshore hydrogen production, establishing a “Center of Excellence.” Led by Sirris | Innovation forward, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and UGent, the project will create an innovation roadmap, foster multidisciplinary research, and set up an academy to enhance offshore energy skills. By collaborating with the Belgian academic offshore wind network from ETF Phairywind, this initiative aims to drive technological advancements and cultivate a new generation of experts. 🌐 Exciting News in Energy Transition! I am thrilled to share a major milestone in the journey towards a sustainable future: The Flemish Government (Vlaamse overheid) is proudly supporting the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (VKI) with a substantial grant of 4 million euros over the next two years! Under the visionary leadership of Flemish Minister for Innovation Jo Brouns, this collaboration aims to accelerate efforts in tackling climate change by focusing on crucial aspects of energy transition. The grant will specifically fuel VKI's research in hydrogen applications and renewable wind energy, contributing to the broader mission of creating a greener and more sustainable world. VKI's ambitious research agenda includes optimizing electrolysis performance, exploring hydrogen production through electrified cracking of light molecules, and designing fuel tanks for liquid hydrogen. On the wind energy front, VKI will develop high-performance models to predict energy yields from offshore wind farms, both close to the shore and in deeper waters with turbines on floating platforms. Peter Grognard, Managing Director of VKI, expressed gratitude for the vital support, acknowledging it as recognition for VKI's dedicated work in the fields of energy transition and hydrogen. The The World Bank Bank’s ESMAP - Energy Sector Management Assistance Program and the CORFO | Chilean Economic Development Agency co-hosted the second in-person Green Hydrogen for Development (H4D) Partnership on October 24-26. 2023. The three-day event focused on the actions needed to support the nascent green hydrogen industry and the measures required to accelerate its deployment in developing countries. During the H4D Partners meeting, the The World Bank’s ESMAP - Energy Sector Management Assistance Program convened government representatives (Egypt, Japan, Brazil and South Africa), public sector institutions, and private stakeholders (UK, Netherlands, and Germany) to share best practices and solutions to advance the green hydrogen economy. The #H4D Partners’ meeting served as a platform to discuss key topics to accelerate hydrogen’s deployment in Chile, including (i) shared infrastructure, (ii) socioeconomic benefits, and (iii)mobilization of private capital.
