Take away a from today’s Semiconductor Summit at LCCC- INTEL in Licking County has utilized construction workers from 59 out of Ohio’s 88 counties. There will be over 7000 workers by the time the plant is done in 5 years. We will not have enough workers to fill open jobs if we only fill every hole in the talent pipeline. We actually have to get 4X the amount in the pipeline to fill these new jobs. The average community college dropout has a B when they stop taking classes. They stop taking classes because they get hired, which is great, but companies need to see the benefit of helping them finish their degrees while working so they can move up in the company and/or pay scale. Politics is always local when it comes to economic development. INTEL is investing $50M in Semiconductor Education and Research Programs in Ohio, and has already spent $17.7M some of it here at LCCC. INTEL’s Ohio facility is named OHIO ONE. Or as we should all refer to it as OHIO WON! Great program today!
