Spirits of Samos: A Journey Through Ouzo and Souma: The spirits of Samos are as deeply rooted in the island's culture as the ancient vines that stretch across its terraced hills. While the island is famous for its Muscat wine, let's not overlook its other liquid gems: Ouzo and Souma. Ouzo, the anise-flavored liqueur synonymous with Greek conviviality, has a special place in Samos. Here, the art of ouzo-making has been perfected over generations. It's not just about mixing water, anise, and alcohol; it's a carefully curated process where the selection of ingredients plays a critical role. The end result is a delicately flavored ouzo that dances on your palate with a bouquet of aromatic nuances. Currently, the island boasts three active ouzo distilleries, each putting their unique spin on this traditional Greek spirit. Then there's Souma, Samos's own version of raki. Often referred to as the "raki of Samos," Souma is a lesser-known but equally cherished local spirit. It is produced through the distillation of grape residue left over from wine-making. Unlike commercial spirits, Souma is mostly crafted in small batches in villages, following time-honored methods. The entire process is a communal affair, a celebration that brings locals together in a festivity of distillation and tasting. What makes Souma distinct is its robust flavor profile. It's a clear, potent spirit, but with an aromatic complexity that distinguishes it from other types of raki. Often enjoyed in small shot glasses, it's not just a drink but a cultural experience, often accompanied by local mezes and hearty conversations. Whether it's the refined complexity of Ouzo or the rustic authenticity of Souma, these spirits offer a taste of Samos that you won't easily forget. They encapsulate the essence of the island, its history, and its people. So, when in Samos, raise a glass and toast to the rich tapestry of flavors that this enchanting island has to offer. Yamas!

🍸 Unveiling Vodka: The Clear Elixir of the North Embark on a journey to uncover the mystique and mastery behind vodka, the quintessential spirit of the North. Born amidst the icy landscapes of Russia and Poland, vodka traces its roots back centuries to the heart of Eastern Europe, where it was first distilled from grains or potatoes. Initially cherished for its purity and potency, vodka earned a revered place in Russian culture, revered for its ability to warm the body in the coldest of winters. Its name, derived from the Slavic word "voda" meaning water, speaks to its elemental essence – clear, crystalline, and utterly transparent. Yet, beneath its seemingly simple facade lies a spirit of remarkable complexity and versatility. Vodka's neutral flavor profile makes it the ultimate canvas for mixologists and cocktail aficionados, allowing other ingredients to shine while providing a smooth and subtle base. In the 20th century, vodka transcended its Slavic origins to become a global phenomenon, embraced by drinkers around the world for its clean taste and mixability. From the classic Martini to the trendy Moscow Mule, vodka serves as the backbone of countless cocktails, each one a testament to its enduring appeal. Today, vodka continues to evolve, with artisanal distillers pushing the boundaries of tradition to create innovative expressions that reflect the terroir of their origins. Whether crafted from grains, potatoes, or even grapes, each vodka tells a story of time and place, capturing the essence of its surroundings in every sip. Raise your glass to vodka – a spirit of purity and possibility, a blank slate upon which to paint your own epicurean adventures. Whether enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in a tantalizing cocktail creation, vodka invites you to savor the moment and toast to the spirit of discovery. #SPIRITFINDER #TasteOfSpirits #SpiritsCommunity #SpiritEnthusiasts #ExploreSpirits #SpiritsDiscovery #Vodka #Voda

When I first started on my Scotch Whisky journey, it was pretty much frowned on, to put Ice in Single Malt Whisky. Nobody in Scotland did. Now, as products, drink strengths attitudes and audiences have changed, it's seen as not such a big deal. In hot countries, Ice in Scotch Whisky probably makes a lot more sense, so this article from South Africa is interesting. There are many 'warm' Scotch Whisky Markets. In India, it's 40 degrees, in Summer. If you're drinking an expensive, Single Malt Scotch Whisky Highball in Mumbai, are you having it with 'local' Ice, probably made from 'local' mineral water? Seems daft. How many other Whisky Drinkers live in much warmer climes? Australia, West Africa, India, Asia, Latin America? I think Scotland is missing a trick here. Years ago, I had a ready-to-roll, worked-up but simple concept, for 'ScotchIce' Bags. We supply, Scotland's finest water, in branded , high-quality ice cube bags, ready to be frozen, in the World's Finest Hotels all over the world, to have with Fine Scotch. Different sizes and shapes, for different drinks. Ice, from Scotland, for Scotch and other drinks. Not made to compete with the Crystal Clear, Artisan Ice, you find in New York Cocktail Bars but if you were paying $20 a drink for a cocktail in Lagos or Singapore, where you didn't see the Ice, what would another $2 be? "Do you want crushed 'ScotchIce' with that?" At the time, specific Whisky WATER (let alone Ice) wasn't even a 'thing'. I remember trying a wee bottle of water, designed for Whisky, for the first time, when it was just a concept. I thought it was quite expensive and would never work! We now Export millions of bottles of Scotch Whisky Water, all over the World! Mind you, I thought Skyscanner and Twitter were 'fads'... The time is now though. Scotland is seen as 'the best'. Why dont we see 'ScotchIce' in the World's top places? #ScotchWhiskyTruths #ScotchIce
