A Question for my #EDI, #DEI, #DEIJ, and #DEIB connections and anyone else who'd like to chime in. I have been thinking a lot lately about our work BlindianProject, which looks to build #solidarity and understanding between Black and South Asian communities, and I am curious: — How many U.K.-based organisations/employers have created space(s) for employees to talk about the protests in #Peckham ? — Do organisations have any role in facilitating conversations among employees whom the Peckham protests may impact? — Are you an EDI, DEI, DEIJ, or DEIB lead but are shying away from the conversations because you don't have a lived experience? For anyone interested, earlier this year Amardeep Bassey revisited the Beauty Queen Riots, which took place in Lozells and Handsworth, Birmingham, in 2005. The Beauty Queen Riots shares many similarities to what happened in Peckham, and is well worth a listen. You can find the 5-part series below #belonging #diversity #inclusion

History shall record that Spain were easily the best performing team in their final game against England. Why? Because Spain as a team of players wanted more to win the game in the way each player competed to challenge for the ball, organise and execute their defense and attack in a more formidable and effective, performing way than England. Throughout the match who were slow in their awareness, ponderous and second to the ball in challenging for the ball, in order to organise and execute their defence and attack in a less formidable, organised and far too predictable manner which enabled Spanish players to 9 times out of 10 either counter their attacking game using superior organisation, discipline and support of each other in defence or press with possession, distribution and greater effective overlapping and penetration with ball and player during attack. If England ever hope to win victories in any match they play in a major European and World cup tournament their players attitude will have to play to win each game rather than play not to lose every game, which is a major change in each players mindset to compete as a team led by an effective, ruthless and determined manager.
History waits! Join us for England v Spain on ITV 🏴⚽️

From the promised land to the poisoned land - that seems to be the dominant trajectory in mainstream narratives about South Africa. However, when I look at the youth, I see entanglement (connectedness across difference) and enculturation (absorption and internalisation of surroundings) as opposed to assimilation (changing the individual to resemble the collective) and appropriation (uncritically repurpose or claim ownership of something). We only see what we expect to see, and what we expect to see is what we have been conditioned to see. Try to see things a little differently. https://lnkd.in/eqp5bQKq

Investing in staff development is so important. Here's a few insights from our CO from a learning programme she is undertaking through CO3 Chief Officers 3rd Sector.
I am blessed to work for a progressive organisation, The Northern Ireland Boys' Brigade (BBNI), that recognises the importance of investing in staff training and development. I am fortunate to be a member of CO3 Chief Officers 3rd Sector, an organisation that understands the challenges of the sector and works hard to secure funding and provide tailored, relevant and accessible learning opportunities. I am currently completing 2 courses through CO3 and, in an attempt to properly reflect and apply the learning, I am writing a series of reflections on some of the gems of knowledge that have been so willingly shared by both the course tutors and my learning colleagues. I was once told that ‘sharing is caring’ so in that spirit, I am sharing the reflections here. I hope they strike a chord with someone reading them. Feedback and comments welcome! What’s keeping you behind the podium? The impact of a video shared on day 2 of the CO3 Chief Officers 3rd Sector Leading for the Future programme at Ulster University seemed to be far reaching among the learning group. It appears to now be on a repeat loop in my mind! Behind the scenes in the making of The Greatest Showman, a video was recorded of Keala Settle singing ‘This is me’ for the first time and captures her journey of stepping out from behind the podium. Such a powerful watch on so many levels. The development of inner confidence to step out, the impact it has on others, the impact it has on self when that step is taken….and the power of the end product. As I reflect, the questions I am asking myself: 💡 ‘This is me’ – who is that and do I bring my authentic self to every part of my life? 💡 Who can I encourage to step out from behind the podium and how can I support them to do that? 💡 What projects/ tasks/ decisions would benefit from me stepping out in front of the podium and what is keeping me behind the podium? 💡 What could be achieved if the podium is no longer blocking key decisions? Stepping out from behind the podium is a positive enabler to achieving great things, both for yourself, your team and your organisation. I encourage you to watch the video and see what effect it has on you. https://lnkd.in/eqHR_JeV

International peace is achievable through laissez faire. Foreign nations should be allowed to resolve their own problems without domestic interference. Foreign support and investment should only be supplied without political allegiance. Successful nations have always served as role models for others to follow. Every nation must choose its own path. Whether it be a monarchy, democracy, socialism, communism, any system of government is only as good as its leadership. Good choices succeed, bad choices fail, history will decide. https://lnkd.in/guEZY-8A
