The power of bringing fandom onchain: Fandom is fuel for the entertainment industry. It’s also an abstract concept. - We are fans of multiple things - Fandom is layered (sport, team, player) - It manifests across platforms and touchpoints (digital and physical) A complete graph of fandom doesn’t exist today. Fans will - Buy tickets to concerts on Ticketmaster - Streams music on Spotify - Engages on social media All that data is fragmented and siloed. Bringing fandom onchain would make it concrete. Turn the fandom graph into a tangible concept that can be leveraged. It creates a massive new design space for tailored fan experiences. I'm bullish on projects building for a future where fandom is onchain.

More momentum for "direct to fan" platforms, and I'm here for it. No brainers I'd love to see more of for artists: - owning, not renting their space (web and custom mobile app) - controlling their distribution (streaming directly, no middle man required) - meaningful 2 way interactions with fans (fans can share UGC) - reliable subscription revenue (for exclusive access and special experiences) - reaching (only) the fans who really care (no algorithm to beat) excited about where this industry is moving... even if it's taking forever to get there. https://lnkd.in/gzNNAs8q #music #musicindustry #musicbusiness

So, after 3 months of DotMe going live on the App and Play Store, over 6,000 unique users have visited our users' bio links. Currently, we're operating with 110 active users out of 350 downloads, meaning 1 in every 3 DotMe downloads has led to a bio link addition. Intentionally, we have achieved this without spending much on ads – almost zero. Our primary goal was to validate our product-market fit, and it seems like we have successfully done so. I will be posting soon about how we acquired our 110 active users (need to audit it myself). TikTok and AXS Announce Global Ticketing Partnership It wasn't going to be long before digital products were made available on TikTok Shop... now this isn't necessarily TikTok Shop but it's a move in the right direction. With this new partnership you can purchase tickets to music shows from TikTok videos with the link taking you to the AXS website to complete the transaction. I can't imagine it'll be long before you can buy tickets to events / digital products without leaving the TikTok app! #tiktok #tiktokmarketing #tiktokstrategy

It's so interesting as before I read the article, the ideology of a "superfan app," has been generated in the K-pop world by HYBE as WeVerse. It's quite fascinating seeing how the Western world (Anglo-America) is using that as an inspiration to try to funnel fans into one general location to be getting this exclusive experience with the artist. I don't agree with it being platform less because it is a platform, it's just trying to filter out the massive fan space that goes across the bigger platforms like TikTok, Twitter (X), Instagram, and so on. I used to use WeVerse and did enjoy the idea that I was closer to BTS and Seventeen. Yet, it still felt like another version of Tumblr or Twitter in the space. I'm curious to know how much of the superfan perspective (wants, needs) are being integrated into the creation of this model. Especially with the discourse online being some fans, yes even superfans, are tired of noticing the way that the superfan approach is now only based on monetary outcomes. Fans will still go to this new app as it is exciting, I'm excited for innovation. However, I'm really curious on how this will operate in a way that feel authentic in the artist to fan relationship that trickles into streams and revenue (tickets, merch, etc.) and the parasocial relationship that fans have with the artist (aka what are the actual expectations fans will have on the artists to perform on this new platform that might try to mimic 1:1 interactions). #musicindustrynews #musicindustry #musicinnovation #superfans #musicbusiness

"I firmly believe in the power of a superfan" - Robert Kyncl, Warner CEO Here's what he has to say about it: "I've assembled a team of incredible technology talent who are working on an app where artists can connect directly with their superfans...and we're focused on making sure that artists get data on these superfans." I thought this was the most interesting piece: "Artists want to work with every single platform...they don't want to optimize just for one platform over another. So a solution like this for superfans has to be a cross-platform solution." Platformless is smart. Maybe they attempt to get around platform exclusivity by offering the same superfan add-ons wherever you stream? We shall see. The app rolls out later this year.

It’s been incredibly inspiring to see Will Matz build Superfan and achieve such growth for a consumer music product. In the simplest terms Superfan is like Spotify Wrapped crossed with Last.fm. Each week you get a weekly recap and an Al-generated vibe based on the music you listened to, and can create groups to share them with your friends. I’m super stoked on these new features that help artists connect directly with their fans. In an age of algorithmically tailored music it’s harder than ever to build authentic fan connections that make it possible to make a living off of your art so I love this effort and can’t wait to see what the future holds. #musictech #startups #innovation

Of course the majors are going to build their own proprietary platforms and teams around 'Super Fans'. If it helps their artists develop relationships with their fans, then I'm all for it. However, it begs the fundamental question: Who do you want to own YOUR DATA and your relationship with YOUR FANS? Your label? Or YOU? Your (sustainable) business is built on direct relationships with your fans. Own your data, own your business.
