Here we are, documenting political history together. With a new PM moved in at Number 10, we wanted to take this opportunity to say an enormous thank you to all of our Globallers, presenters, and guests whose tireless efforts saw Global deliver the most ambitious and impactful election coverage ever broadcast on UK radio. Lead by LBC's Managing Editor, Tom Cheal, our teams in the newsroom, production, video, events, editorial, technology, Global Player, marketing, comms, workspace - and everyone else in between - all played their part in the run up to the election and on the momentous night itself. On air, LBC and 'The News Agents' joined forces to broadcast audio/visual coverage streamed live on Global Player, LBC's website and social channels, plus sister station LBC News shared headlines around the clock. Across our outdoor estate, we shared breaking news in tandem with our on-air broadcast. As much as we'd love to credit all involved, there simply aren't enough characters permitted on a post! But we do hope these behind-the-scenes snapshots do justice to the scale of people involved, and to their talent and focus. #Global | #GeneralElection | #Election | #Politics | #News | #Broadcasting | #Radio | #KeirStarmer

With the newsroom planning machines kicking into overdrive, it will be the first time in many years that I haven’t been involved in the coverage of a general election. My first experience was in 1997, when Tony Blair told the nation that ‘things can only get better’ - leading Labour to an historic landslide victory. That tune made an impromptu appearance this week and it reminded me of my 18-year-old self. My job 27 years ago - running radio ‘carts’ (remember them?!) back and forth from the studio and the newsroom at the BBC in Coventry, as key sound bites and reactions flooded in from around the UK. So what will TV newsrooms be planning now? 📺 Extensive preview pieces to run throughout the six-week campaign. Explainer reports on the key issues, battlegrounds and policies. Features from the towns and cities that will decide who the next PM will be - with a real focus on hearing from real people 📺 Organising teams to film the key visits by politicians across the country - ensuring they are challenged on what they are saying, but also that reporting is balanced and fair across all the main parties, throughout the campaign 📺 Planning the extremely complicated logistics for the overnight counts. What seats to cover, how the footage will get back to base and how to respond to the story the next day - both logistically and editorially It is a huge operation and one that I used to love organising. In television news - it is arguably one of the most significant and complicated stories to plan, not least because of the amount of resources it takes to do it well. And of course, the amount of places you need to be in order to reflect the overall story. You need the right pictures and soundbites - so have to ensure every conceivable angle is covered. You can’t afford to miss the next ‘Portillo moment’. Wishing old colleagues in newsrooms across the country the very best of luck as we approach the 4th of July. You have such a vital role to play and such an important story to tell. STORY #TellingStoriesThatMatter #News #election #generalelection #PR #journalism #politics

Here are some notes about the #MediaBill. Will it be the End of Local Radio in the UK? Consolidation. Monopolisation. Concentration. Homogenisation! We need more market diversity in independent and community radio. This bill won't provide it! #mediareform

As the politicians like to say, "This isn't hyperbole" . We all know that national news feeds , cable, and network Television , regardless of political orientation, garner very little "trust" from viewers. Often less than 15% "trust" is reported in surveys to viewers about what they see and hear from these sources. But when it comes to trust in "locally sourced Radio and Television" that same "trust level" jumps 4 to 5 times. Does this matter to the messaging that you communicate when marketing your products and services to existing customers and new conversions? You bet it does. Consumers actively seek out sources and messaging that they can trust. Be smart, go local. #iheartmedia https://lnkd.in/g2p5-yiX
