Join us in the world of innovation and scientific discovery - AIDS2024 is coming soon! Pavlo Smyrnov, Deputy Executive Director of the Alliance for Public Health, will speak at the symposium “Reframing PrEP and STI care outside the box and into real-world settings: Innovations and social determinants of health”. Pavlo will share his presentation on “Innovation in PrEP scale up during war times in Ukraine”, which will focus on the best practices of implementing pre-exposure prophylaxis in the context of war. Symposium “Rethinking the concept of PrEP and STI treatment in real conditions: Innovations and Social Determinants of Health” focuses on new pharmacological forms of PrEP, such as long-acting injectable PrEP, daily and on-demand oral PrEP, and the vaginal ring. In addition, new technologies for prevention, rapid testing and effective treatment of STIs will be discussed. Innovative alternative community-based programs and services, with broad peer involvement in the provision of PrEP and other care, will also be discussed. However, an important aspect of the symposium is the focus on social determinants of health, stigma and discrimination that limit access to these technologies. This is especially true in the context of high social vulnerability and economic inequality. The aim of the symposium is to present innovative alternatives for the prevention and treatment of STIs and discuss strategies to overcome social determinants of health to increase access to them for the most vulnerable populations. Earlier this week I chaired a session at World Health Organization’s 2nd #WLPF: Modelling the ecosystem for sustainable local production to improve access. We discussed examples of government action, industry action and the promise of improving regulatory capacity and harmonization alongside strengthening financing. Strategies like fostering public-private partnerships, flexible financing options, regulatory harmonization, stakeholder coordination, and leveraging previous access platforms (e.g. built for HIV, TB, & Malaria) to facilitate access to other meds were covered. It’s clear the solutions are available, it’s time for industry and partners to implement them for sustainable local production to become a reality. Glad to have taken a part in the Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance (IBBS) round 3, that took place earlier this year, as a quality assurance representative, doing very meticulous supervision on the study sites, and ensuring adherence to the study protocol. The Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance. IBBS is a community-based systematic survey designed to assess risk behaviors and the prevalence of HIV and other related diseases among the most-at-risk populations. The National IBBS aims to generate evidence on risk behaviors among risk groups in order to support programme planning and prioritization at the district, state, and national levels, in regards to HIV, HCV and HBV in Egypt. It was a hectic journey yet exciting one filled with valuable experiences. Even though the data collection and site survey phases have been successfully completed, we are still anxiously awaiting the final findings, which will guide our efforts as United Nations Development Program (Global Fund PR in Egypt). #UnitedNations #GoodHealthAndWellBeing #IBBSS

I ended the year 2023 training healthcare data managers on DHIS2 data analysis and used, on the project: Partnership to strengthen technical capacity to analyze and use data on HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria in West and Central Africa. A lot of data is produced every month by the Health Information System (HIS). However, field experience shows that so far, a very small proportion of the available data is used for decision-making at the Health Facility (HF) level. The objective is to enhance data used for planning Once a year, to set quantitative targets for the district, at mid-year or the end of the year, at minimum, to assess progress and bottlenecks in reaching the targets set in their operational plans, and routinely, to investigate specific problems, adjust strategies, find solutions, or initiate specific actions in response to a recently identified disruptive factor, whether external or internal of the health system. #Gambia #HMIS #MinistryofHealth #monitoringandevaluation

Empowering High-Performers | Science Advisor & Communicator | Translating Complex Health Insights into Actionable Strategies
The call by UNAIDS on World AIDS Day 2023: "Let Communities Lead." Here is my take on how communities can be enabled to lead: 🚀 Unleashing Health Tech for Community-Led Solutions: Embracing AI and health technology is pivotal. Imagine precision-targeted interventions, personalised healthcare, and real-time data empowering communities. 🌍 Breaking Barriers (easier said than done, but still possible): Limited Infrastructure: Many regions lack robust technological infrastructure, posing challenges in implementing sophisticated health tech solutions. Bridging the digital divide is crucial for ensuring equitable access to innovations. Resource Constraints: Scarce resources make acquiring and maintaining cutting-edge technology a significant challenge. Sustainable investment and global collaboration are key to overcoming financial barriers. 💡 Innovate, Educate, Empower: Despite these challenges, health tech can still be a catalyst for positive change. Scalable, cost-effective solutions that cater to the unique needs of communities. Educational initiatives can empower communities to harness the benefits of technology. 🤝 Collaboration for Impact: Global collaboration takes center stage. By fostering partnerships between public and private institutions to build the needed infrastructure, and sharing expertise, we can navigate challenges together. 📈 How far we've come: Today's newsletter from Bhekisisa (Mia Malan and Mohale Moloi (He/him)) highlights the remarkable drop in new HIV infections in South Africa—over 60% in the past 30 years. 🎉 🌟 #letcommunitieslead #worldaidsday #healthtech #innovation #ai #hivprevention #southafrica https://lnkd.in/dD6k3zFQ
