We are about to complete the first phase of the IMPULSE project and will launch the second phase soon. IMPULSE is a scientific research initiative conducted by #ChiesiFoundation in collaboration with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, U. of London, the WHO Collaborating Center in Trieste IRCCS Burlo Garofolo, Medici con l'Africa Cuamm/ Doctors with Africa CUAMM, #UNICEF and the #WHO. The first phase of the project focused on creating a robust framework for #datacollection and analysis in the Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda. The second phase will focus on using the collected data to improve #neonatalcare. Activities will include in-depth analysis of the data to identify key trends and insights, developing and implementing evidence-based interventions to improve neonatal #health outcomes. The #IMPULSE project is an example of the power of collaboration to improve #globalhealth. We are grateful to all who contributed to the success of the first phase and are eager to continue working together to improve the lives of #newborns in the #GlobalSouth. #HealthForAll #HealthEquity

📢 Global Health EDCTP3 launches research projects to combat MPOX 🌍 On August 14, 2024, the World Health Organization declared the #Mpox a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) as it rapidly affected populations across the Democratic Republic of Congo and a growing number of countries in #Africa. 🚨 In light of this unparalleled crisis, Global Health EDCTP3 quickly took action by launching five projects aimed at addressing some of the most pressing #research challenges at hand. Enabled by €6.7 million in funding, our projects started their operations on August 1. As sub-Saharan Africa (#SSA) leads the charge against this crisis, our commitment to support collaborative research places us at the forefront of the global effort to contain these outbreaks and safeguard #GlobalHealth. Do you know what the European Health Data Space (EHDS) is? If you are a researcher working with data in Europe, it is time to pay attention. The EHDS represents the most comprehensive legal initiative concerning health data in the history of the European Union, with the potential to significantly impact healthcare and research across Europe. In March, Klaus Høyer, Andrea Ganna, and I gathered a group of experts from various health data research specialties and disciplines across Europe to discuss how cross-border sharing of health data can benefit the public. We identified four interconnected areas where improved data availability can enhance research outcomes: 1. Opportunities to explore differences 2. Access to real-world data 3. Continuous public health surveillance 4. Increased data diversity If implemented thoughtfully, the EHDS should facilitate quicker, easier, and more equitable access to health data throughout Europe, ultimately improving public health. However, challenges remain, including low public support, high data costs, poor legal harmonization, insufficient data skills and training, and lack of funding. Having worked in an LMIC country undertaking medical research under various capacities, it is quite clear that given the setting of limited resources and high rates of poverty, disease, and systems that are overwhelmed in one way or the other, primary research emerges as a pivotal driver for shaping policies and decision-making. Through methodologies such as surveys, epidemiological studies, and community engagement, primary research plays a critical role in identifying health priorities, assessing healthcare infrastructure, and understanding the accessibility and utilization of healthcare services. By conducting intervention studies, building local research capacity, and advocating for evidence-based policies, primary research not only addresses the unique challenges in these resource-limited areas of Africa but also contributes to collaborative efforts, ensuring sustainable improvements in healthcare outcomes. Only through the meticulous implementation of these strategies can we aspire to bridge the substantial gap that currently exists between Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) and High-Income Countries (HICs). .

📊🌍 Between November 20th and 24th, 2023, IVCC facilitated a statistical workshop for our African research partners, aimed at enhancing statistical knowledge in the realm of vector control product trials. Hosted at the Ifakara Health Institute in Bagamoyo, Tanzania, this workshop fostered a collaborative environment to advance expertise in statistical methodologies. The workshop's primary goal was to share best practices in designing Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) studies and expertly analyzing the ensuing data. With a specific focus on meeting the reporting requirements of the WHO Prequalification Unit, Vector Control Product Assessment Team (WHO PQT/VCP), and aligning with the latest WHO guidelines on vector control product evaluations. 📚 Delve deeper into the details of this knowledge-packed workshop: https://ow.ly/h0yv50Qrnna IVCC is grateful for support from Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. That's a wrap on the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Network meeting in Queensland. Held at the stunning location on the 78th floor of SkyPoint on the Gold Coast, the view wasn’t the only thing that impressed me. The event was packed with innovative discussions, presentations and insights that provided me with these key takeaways: -It was a privilege hearing our long-time collaborators Professors Joshua Davis and Steven Tong speak on ‘Designing Your Study,’ a topical subject in line with our work at Spiral. - Quick-fire presentations by early career researchers showcased the strong support for infectious disease research, with valuable feedback to help them advance their trials. - The future of infectious disease research is looking bright, with researchers asking innovative questions and considering global impacts, especially in less advantaged regions like parts of Africa and Asia. A major theme was diversity and early engagement: - Engaging with consumer and indigenous groups during the design phase enhances feedback and community involvement. - Adjustments based on community input, like switching to a 6-month injection from a daily pill, led to higher enrolment and engagement. - Engaging early with statisticians and database providers, like us at Spiral, is crucial to avoid dead ends and ensure a smooth trial design and grant submission process. These insights only touched the surface of the learnings we took away, highlighting how valuable these events are for the medical industry and the advancement of treatments for people across the world. -Audrey Shearer, CEO and Founder, Spiral Software #ASID #globalhealthoutcomes #clinicaltrials #randomisation #bespoketrialdesign #infectiousdiseases #spiralsoftware #healthtech #adaptiveclinicaltrials #clinicalresearch #humancenteredtrialdesign
