🎦 Watch how Belgium keeps its citizens safe from scams 🎞 At the Global Anti-Scam Summit (GASS) Europe 2024, Miguel De Bruycker from the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB) discussed Belgium’s comprehensive strategies for protecting its citizens from online scams and cybersecurity threats. De Bruycker emphasized the importance of clear leadership in cybersecurity efforts, noting the current confusion around roles and responsibilities among various sectors. He highlighted Belgium’s initiatives to tackle this issue, focusing on active cyber protection without infringing on privacy or resorting to aggressive countermeasures like hacking back. Watch the full presentation here: https://lnkd.in/ej3-ECgC Key initiatives include: Suspicious Email Reporting: Belgium's CCB receives almost 10 million suspicious emails annually through the address [email protected], providing insights into scam activities and informing their response strategies. Anti-Phishing Measures: Belgian Anti-Phishing Shield: Utilizing DNS routing in collaboration with major ISPs to warn users about malicious domains. Stop Phishing Project: Filtering malicious SMS and emails, significantly reducing phishing attempts. Public Awareness and Tools: SafeOnWeb Browser Extension: A browser tool that validates legitimate websites, helping users distinguish between safe and potentially harmful sites. Portal and App for Scam Warnings: Platforms to alert the public about ongoing scams. India has proposed using a 24*7 global communication channel between countries to combat rising instances of #phishing by “rendering phishing links inaccessible and identifying the abused information technology (IT) resources and the malicious actors”. The proposal is part of India’s submission to a draft treaty on prevention of #cybercrime, which is being deliberated upon by an ad-hoc committee of the United Nations. The 24x7 network could be used to promptly inform other nations about identified web links, uniform resource locators (URLs) and websites which send out #phishing links, India has said. Jargon buster: Phishing is using a malicious email or text prompt to trick users into giving up sensitive data, such as passwords and bank account numbers, by posing as a legitimate business or misrepresenting a person. One of the biggest problems with data collected by government agencies is that it is often stored in silos by the respective agencies. The Malaysian government has just launched the country’s national central database hub. Called Padu, the system will contain individual and household profiles of citizens and permanent residents in the country. When the government handles data of this size, the risk in terms of data intrusion and security is a significant concern. The development of Padu has taken into account all the aspects of system security risks and classified information breaches #database #datacollection #padu #security #privacy #dataprotection #cybersecurity #cybercriminals https://lnkd.in/gte3Gv8z

I am thrilled to announce the release of my 6th research paper, titled "Cybercrime on Social Media in Nigeria: Trends, Scams, Vulnerabilities, and Prevention." This paper has been included in the esteemed Proceedings of the Cyber Security Experts Association of Nigeria (CSEAN) Conference – 2023. In this extensive study, my colleagues Emmanuel ARSHAD (GMNSE), Pham Bich Ngoc, and I delve into the intricate world of cybercrime within Nigeria's social media landscape. Our research illuminates emerging trends, cunning scams, and critical vulnerabilities that warrant the attention of individuals, businesses, and policymakers. But our paper doesn't merely identify issues; it offers actionable solutions. I take pride in the fact that this research isn't confined to academia – it's a clarion call to action. Our work presents a series of recommendations and strategies designed to fortify cybersecurity awareness, nurture digital ethics, and establish protective measures. It is my aspiration that these insights will serve as guiding beacons for individuals seeking to secure their online presence, businesses striving to fortify their digital operations, and policymakers endeavoring to cultivate a safer online realm for all. The paper is available to the public through https://lnkd.in/gAVFeKpx #Cybersecurity #ResearchPublication #DigitalEthics #CybercrimePrevention #SecureOnlineWorld
