The challenges we face today demand a collective effort to build connections that go deep. This requires a shared responsibility to foster compassionate relationships - with each other and this place we call home. It requires a commitment to the belief that we are the medicine. That connection is what heals. - - #socialhealth #socialwellbeing #socialwellness #socialconnection #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #healingtrauma #deeperconnection #humanconnection #connectioniskey #seekhealing

In a new #PowerofIdeas essay for the Milken Institute Future of Health Summit, Jeremy Nobel writes about the power of creative expression as a broad-based, scalable public health opportunity to address the loneliness crisis in the US. About one in three of us is lonely. Health-care leaders, take note. In achieving the elusive “Triple Aim” of health care: improved care outcomes, lower per capita costs, and outstanding patient experiences, addressing loneliness offers a compelling opportunity. https://lnkd.in/eStnTQ48

Founding Director, AAMC Center for Health Justice at Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC)
The New York Times “Connections” game editors - and probably most people - see these words as synonymous. All I see is nuance and difference. While I may be “right”, I don’t think demanding lexicon perfection helps #healthequity folks broaden our tent. To build our movement we need to make it clear that health equity/equality/evenness/fairness/justice benefits all communities. That all communities deserve the basic, #vitalconditions needed to thrive. That there’s no need to take health resources away from community A and give them to community B to achieve equity/equality/evenness/fairness/justice: “Scarce resources” is a myth and a choice. There’s more that unites us than divides us. Language shouldn’t stand in the way of solidarity. That said, we still need our language to be respectful, inclusive, precise, and action oriented. COACH, Mentor, Sponsor for CHW - Community Health Education (Certified Community Health Worker FL) Strategic Planning, Implementation, Evaluation.
"Underrepresentation continues for black, indigenous, people of color, referred to as BIPOC today. Latinos are 18% of the workforce and only 1% of CEOs and Asian Americans make up 13% of the U.S. professional workforce, yet only 5.6% of CEOs. For example, Latinos are 18% of the workforce, so parity would mean that they would be 18% of CEOs. Now you're probably thinking that the 18% are not necessarily qualified to be CEOs. Good point. However, why is the discrepancy so big? White men represent 38% of the workforce and almost 90% of CEOs in the United States. Striving for parity will help us to achieve equity. Why is racial and ethnic equity so hard to achieve and what can we do about it? " Those in power need to be willing to do the work to affect change in a collaborative and equity-centered way, alongside those who are most impacted by inequities. Equity First: The Path to Inclusion and Belonging Racial and ethnic equity Mary-Frances Winters Founder and CEO of The Winters Group, Inc.
🩺 As a Latino doctor in the USA, I feel a deep responsibility not only to the Latino community, but to all those I serve. We are uniquely positioned to understand and address the social determinants of health, thereby improving the lives of countless people. Health knows no borders or languages and, as professionals, our duty is to be a bridge and guide. Endless thanks to my friend Alister Martin for giving me the opportunity to be part of the "Round Table of Health Care Leaders on Social Media for the White House". I am excited for what is to come and how, together, we will make a difference. 🌟 Note; that day was also awesome because I got to meet Luisana Pérez Fernández #MedicineWithPurpose #HealthForAll #drmauinforma

Founder/Managing Director of Connecting Worlds (deaf public health advice/projects) BSL/English interpreting/translation
Marmot Places - are you familiar with these 8 principles? https://lnkd.in/ewYAQ4aT They cover the main social determinants of health in places. I have been talking to Deaf organisations about these principles. A couple of the principles cover the following: 5. Create and develop healthy and sustainable places and communities 7. Tackle racism, discrimination and their outcomes These areas are very topical currently in the Deaf community, with the forthcoming general elections, many Deaf people are being left out due to lack of accessible local democratic processes and political briefings/press conferences. I wanted to do a shout out to Liam O'Dell (Deaf journalist) Liam O'Dell and Dawn Baxter Dawn Baxter. LLB , who are both flying the flag for this cause. If Deaf people cannot understand who they are voting for, how can they vote for parties that will support their causes, and policies that lead to improving lives of Deaf people. If anyone wants to discuss any aspect of Deafness and public health, drop me a line.

Title: Health and Humanity: A Symbiotic Relationship Subtitle: Why I delve into humanities through health. Health and humanity share an inseparable bond, forming the cornerstone of a thriving and compassionate society. The intersection of these two elements shapes the well-being of individuals and the collective welfare of communities. This essay delves into the intricate relationship between health and humanity, exploring how the pursuit of health mirrors the essence of our shared humanity. At its core, humanity embodies a commitment to empathy, solidarity, and the recognition of our interconnectedness. In the realm of health, this translates into a collective responsibility to ensure access to quality healthcare for all. A society that values its humanity places the well-being of its members at the forefront, striving to create an environment where health disparities are minimized, and every individual has the opportunity to lead a fulfilling and healthy life. One fundamental aspect of health and humanity lies in the acknowledgment of the inherent dignity of every person. The right to health is not merely a medical imperative but a testament to our shared commitment to human dignity. Providing equitable access to healthcare becomes a moral obligation, reflecting our acknowledgment of the intrinsic value of each life. To be continued...
