Funded by and embedded within Dalio Education, CTOP's mission is to invest in and help strengthen youth-serving organizations in Connecticut so they can work effectively, reliably, and sustainably with severely off-track or disconnected young people ages 14 to 26 to help them re-engage in and complete secondary education or a credential, then transition successfully to a post-secondary pathway leading to satisfying employment at a living wage that supports their self-sufficiency. Youth-serving non-profit organizations play a critical role in reaching young people who have dropped out of high school, or who are at the highest risk for doing so, and helping them re-connect to education and opportunity. Yet most non-profit organizations across the social sector struggle to succeed because they lack access to unrestricted long-term funding and outside expertise to support them in focusing on their missions and building the capacities and competencies required to do excellent and highly effective work. The Opportunity Project is designed in response to this challenge, providing grantees general operating support dollars coupled with organizational coaching and technical assistance to help build their organizational capacities so that they can achieve measurable improvements in young people's lives and prospects. Founder & President @ Life Heroes | Boston College Alumna | A Creative Builder - Reimagining Learning with Creativity
🏫 I attended New York public school throughout elementary school, middle school and high school. 📖 As a kid, my experiences were limited. I thought reading out of 8 year old textbook filled with inappropriate, yet hilarious doodles was normal. 📚 As a teen, my experiences became subjective. I thought not having the funding to have a in school library was just the consequences of growing up in the inner cities of New York. 🎓 As an adult I was blessed to attend Boston College where my experiences became relatable stories that connected me with other people from all over United States. I hate to be political so I'll end my short story here and leave you with a few facts about the United States of America: - At 4.96%, the United States spends a smaller percentage of its GDP on education than other developed nations, which average 5.59% of GDP in educational spending. - The United States does not meet UNESCO's benchmark of a 15.00% share of total public expenditure on education. The nation puts 11.6% of public funding toward education. -The national gross domestic product (GDP) grows 71.6% faster than public education budgets. -The United States spent a total of $877 billion, that's almost 40% of the total global military spending. -Federal education funding is equivalent to 0.17% of the state's taxpayer income. In nearly thirty years of working with inspiring leaders, iconic companies, brilliant teams, and complex challenges, I've learned a thing or two. And one of the most valuable lessons I've picked up along the way is the importance of giving more than you take. Believe me, this principle applies not only to your school days but also in the present moment, maybe more than ever. For those of you that have been through it, you know founding a nonprofit is no small task. It can get pretty messy, there's always a shortage of funds, volunteers and staff, and you're constantly seeking better ways to support your community. But at the core of it all is that beautiful, innate desire we humans have to make a difference and give back. There are nearly two million nonprofits in the US alone, accounting for roughly 5.3% of the US's total GDP and 9.2% of all wages and salaries. Trillions of dollars in impact are felt across the world all stemming from the everyday actions of people doing good. When Susanne and I founded BPI, it was with the intention of helping young adults in our community that were falling through the cracks- underemployed, unskilled, lacking resources to build a future. It's a fact that a high school diploma alone is unfortunately not enough in today's job market. In fact, it's almost equivalent to dropping out. Can you believe that? About 90% of the jobs in our state require some form of post-secondary education, but not all of them require a four-year degree. A university experience is not for everyone and is increasingly out of range for most families. Meanwhile, there are tens of thousands of good paying jobs waiting to be filled if only we can connect those students with both the training and employment opportunities available. At BPI, we decided to help accelerate the path to meaningful careers through CTE (career and technical education), by getting young adults into apprenticeships, paid training programs, and skilled trade certifications. On top of scholarships, we fund the nonprofits in our community that are working to eliminate the wide variety of barriers facing young adults including access to childcare, transportation, required tools and materials, and testing fees. Hitting just one of these obstacles can derail the entire future of a promising person. We believe that everyone has a combination of time, talent, and treasure to give in making things a little better for our neighbors. I’m excited to be a small part of those two million US nonprofits. For those of you who are supporting that community, thank you. For those of you who have not yet taken the leap, will you join us? www.bpicharity.org

From LLC to Non-profit Programmers Guild has been organized from day 1 as a local workshop where every penny that comes in, stays in: all money in our bank is used to improve the training we deliver, connect people to opportunities and host tech events in the Bay Area. But doing business in America is necessarily a bit more complex so when we first established our office downtown Oakland, we had to do it as an LLC to qualify for specific federal programs that would help fund local training programs. Well ...we all knew the economy has been hell, and its closed many doors and some of those programs no longer exist. So we're back to where we originally started: Programmers Guild is officially a non-profit in both name and service as of May 2024. As far as how we deliver services: not a thing has changed. But what this does for us is provide more avenues for funding to help us keep doing what we do. It also makes sponsorships more attractive for other organizations who want to contribute to our mission. 🏁 That said, Programmers Guild still looks to the community: if you want to sponsor someones training, get in touch. If you pay for training, you're not just helping yourself but also making sure we can continue to develop and host free workshops each month. In a couple of years, all training at the Guild should be FREE. That's the dream! But to get there we still rely on community support. ✊🏾 Thank you all for the success we've seen so far. We'll keep building on that. 💙 💙 💙 💙

Join us and celebrate our organization! 💪 🌟 📚 We are honored to be one of the top-rated nonprofits in Chicago by @greatnonprofits! Our organization is committed to helping and encouraging students to reach their full potential. We could only have done it with our board & committee members, volunteers, and tutors! To highlight one of our volunteers, they wrote, "Volunteering with this organization has been very rewarding for me and has offered me a chance to grow and learn in unexpected ways. Not only have I made a tangible difference in the lives of students and their families, but through various tasks and projects, I've gained valuable skills and experiences beyond my initial expectations." 🎒 📝 𝘞𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘣𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩-𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘶𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘤𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘤𝘴, 𝘦𝘯𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵, 𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘱, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴.
