Agriculture in #Iraq and Its #trade Capacities Introduction: In the modern era, agriculture plays a crucial role in the Iraqi economy, significantly impacting the livelihoods of its people. Due to the diverse climate and terrain, agriculture serves as a primary source for both food supply and income generation. Below, we delve into some essential aspects of agriculture in Iraq and its trading capacities: 1. Climate and Land #Diversity: -Iraq's diverse climate and terrain enable the cultivation of various crops, including grains, fruits, and vegetables. 2. Large Domestic Market: - The presence of a population exceeding 40 million in Iraq has created a sizable domestic market with a significant demand for agricultural products. 3. Food Supply:  - Agriculture in Iraq is considered one of the primary solutions for ensuring food supply and nutrition, contributing significantly to the country's economy. 4. Irrigation Situation: - Extensive use of water for agriculture is supported by the presence of rivers and abundant water resources for irrigation of farmlands. 5. Challenges and Opportunities: - Despite agricultural infrastructure, Iraq faces #challenges such as infrastructure issues, climate change, and water resource management. However, this sector also presents opportunities that, with proper utilization, can promote agricultural development. 6. Trade Capacities:  - With diverse agricultural production, Iraq has the potential to export to international markets. Therefore, individuals and companies specialized in trade can find opportunities for collaboration and commerce with Iraq. Utilizing appropriate resources and adhering to business principles can facilitate commercial transactions in Iraqi agriculture and contribute to the development of this #industry in the #country. #aegis

I am pleased to share key findings, challenges and recommendations based on the Political Economic Analysis (PEA) of Pulses & Beans; and Oilseeds in Myanmar commissioned by ACDI/VOCA, Washington DC, USA. 2/2 IOFS Advances Agricultural Resilience in Afghanistan: Productive Engagements in Kabul and Logar Continuing the Mission expedition, the IOFS delegation visited the Badambagh, Agricultural Research Institute of Afghanistan (ARIA) in Kabul. Mawlavi Nasratullah Talha, the General Director of the Institute, expressed gratitude for IOFS's unwavering support, emphasizing the urgency of bolstering Afghanistan's agricultural sector. Engagements with technical experts spanned a range of topics, including soil research, plant protection and quarantine, agrochemicals, quality control of chemical and organic fertilizers, and emergency pest control. Discussions also addressed the looming threat of Moroccan locusts and other pests to harvests, fostering mutual resolve for enhanced participation of Afghan experts in international forums addressing transboundary pest control and fighting against plant diseases. The parties also contemplated avenues for potential capacity-building assistance. The insights acquired during this fact-finding mission will be shared among IOFS Member States, forming the bedrock for actionable interventions and concrete project proposals. IOFS remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering sustainable agricultural development, thereby contributing to amplified food security and prosperity for the people of #Afghanistan.

In recent years, Kurdistan has emerged as a significant player in the global agricultural market, its rich soil and favorable climate have proven to be ideal for cultivating high-quality products.  The recent export of potatoes from Kurdistan to Gulf countries marks a significant achievement for the region, this accomplishment is not just a testament to the dedication of local farmers, but also a stepping stone towards establishing Kurdistan as a prominent player in the international agricultural market.  The first shipment was a substantial 500 tons, Kurdistan boasts an annual potato production exceeding 600,000 tons across various types. Notably, 20% of this production caters to the thriving domestic market, The remaining 80% of the potato harvest is dedicated to meeting the demands of nations in the Gulf countries The Kurdistan region's agricultural sector has marked its presence on the international stage through its commitment to providing high-quality produce. The soaring demand for Kurdish potatoes and pomegranates in the Gulf countries underscores the region's capability to cater to global needs while maintaining its commitment to quality standards.  The stage is set for Kurdistan to continue expanding its export portfolio, As the demand for these high-quality products continues to grow, it is anticipated that other nations will also recognize the potential of Kurdistan's agricultural offerings. This achievement not only highlights Kurdistan's potential as an agricultural powerhouse but also emphasizes the significance of cross-border partnerships in a globalized world.
