The executive mayor of Matjhabeng Municipality, Thanduxolo Khalipha, has introduced NOA, the company selected to lead the ambitious Khautha Solar Project. This 350MW solar initiative, backed by a R4.4 billion investment, promises to transform Matjhabeng Local Municipality into a diversified industrial hub and address South Africa’s energy crisis. The solar plant will generate 900 GWH annually, providing electricity to 250,000 homes in Matjhabeng for the next 30 years. This project is not just about energy but also about fostering economic and socio-economic development, creating job opportunities, and uplifting the local community. “The Khautha Solar Project is more than just an energy initiative; it’s a catalyst for economic transformation in Matjhabeng,” said Khalipha. AYUDA EN ACCIÓN UGANDA (AeA) INCREASES ITS POSITIONING IN UGANDA: MOUs WITH TULIMA SOLAR LIMITED AND THE UGANDA SOLAR ENERGY ASSOCIATION (USEA). Today 30 August, 2023, AeA UG signed two MoUs with Tulima Solar and USEA. The collaboration with Tulima paves the way for AeA's expansion into the Lamwo and Obongi districts in the northern part of the country. Through this partnership with Tulima, AeA will support farmers in their efforts to reduce agricultural production costs and increasing productivity by using solar water pumping solutions. The Uganda Solar Energy Association (USEA) is an independent non-profit association dedicated to facilitating the growth and development of the solar energy industry in Uganda and the rest of East Africa. USEA was formed in 2016 by private sector companies engaged in the solar energy business with the assistance of Uganda's Ministry of Energy and the Rural Electrification Agency. AeA's decision to sign an MoU with USEA is based on our commitment to strengthening the institutional and management capabilities of our partners. Furthermore, this collaboration would assist AeA in considering joint activities within the Uganda Off-Grid Carbon Credit Initiative (UOCCI). Ayuda en Acción began operations in this country in 2018 and is currently working within the framework of its 2023-2025 strategy, aligned with Uganda's III National Development Plan. Our strategy aims at fighting poverty by implementing a market systems development approach in selected value chains to expand the reach of renewable energy technologies in host communities and refugees throughout the country. The World Bank's Malawi Electricity Access Project (MEAP), via the Ngwee Ngwee Ngwee Fund, supports private sector-led off-grid solar initiatives, enabling over 140,000 households to gain electricity. Solar companies like Yellow Solar and Zuwa Energy offer affordable packages, helping families light their homes, charge phones, and enjoy radios. With a goal to connect 1.9 million people by June 2025, the project is crucial for areas far from the national grid, significantly enhancing daily life and education for many Malawians.

As someone who played a small part in harnessing technology to facilitate clean gas cooking in Sub-Saharan Africa, it's great to see Husk Power Systems, which has been backing rural electrification since 2008, has secured a whopping $103 million in Series D. The funding will supercharge their aim of establishing 500 solar mini-grids in Nigeria, addressing a significant challenge: Sub-Saharan Africa houses 75% of the global population lacking access to renewable energy.
