Our approach combine clean energy solutions with essential aid and telecommunications to ensure that affected families have access to electricity, internet, and basic needs. By deploying mobile solar power units to emergency shelters, critical health facilities, and local charities, SmartAID ensured that the basic needs of the community are met while also helping to reduce the carbon footprint. These solar units provide a renewable source of energy that is crucial for powering necessary services during the initial crisis. Furthermore, our efforts in setting up solar energy installations contribute to the long-term goal of improving climate change. By replacing traditional, carbon-intensive power sources with solar energy, they help to mitigate the impact of greenhouse gases and support the transition to a more sustainable energy system. California-based solar energy solutions company d.light is addressing the critical issue of electricity access in rural community health clinics across Africa. Approximately 1 billion people in low- and lower-middle-income countries face unreliable or no electricity in healthcare facilities, as per a World Health Organization report. d.light is installing solar-powered LEDs and alternate power supply systems in over 600 off-grid health clinics, enabling them to extend operating hours and provide treatment at night. This initiative is particularly beneficial for expectant mothers in labor, who no longer have to give birth in darkness. The lack of electricity contributes to higher maternal mortality rates in Africa compared to Europe. d.light's high-efficiency LED lights, producing over 140 lumens per watt, are being donated to these clinics, positively impacting healthcare access and outcomes in rural communities. In August, d.light secured $125 million in funding to expand its solar-powered products to low-income households in Tanzania. As proud members of the IMPHORAA Project consortium, we at TWI are eager to shed light on the life-changing impact we're bringing to Port Silanguin's coastal villages. Picture this: Local fishermen and their families, striving each day, only to grapple with the fundamental act of refrigerating their catch. A crucial livelihood becomes an ordeal in the absence of basic electricity. John Defensor of Quantum Leap Marketing has given some insight on the matter: “Port Silanguin is an isolated island with no road network, no electricity, no potable water system – the perfect place for a solar nanogrid. It is 33 kilometres away from mainland Zambales and travel time by boat is about two to 2.5 hours each way, costing P250. Its inhabitants are mostly fisher folk, who spend about P800 to P1,200 for a block of ice.” With the deployment of IMPHORAA's solar nanogrids, we're doing more than lighting up homes.
