Excited doesn’t begin to describe how I’m feeling today, because it’s day one of my new role at GitLab. I’ll be working with some of the smartest people in the industry on many of the coolest problems out there. I chose GitLab for a number of reasons. - First is because I’ve already worked with a ton of their existing Customers, and I’ve heard glowing opinions about the team and product come from nearly every person with whom I’ve discussed. - Secondly, I love the remote-first culture. There is an openness and collaborative focus inherent in the way things are done. Enthusiasm and eagerness to contribute is strongly encouraged. - And finally, the breadth with which I will be able to engage and support my Customers’ work and grow will span the entire #SLDC, from planning and ideation to asset retirement, GitLab is a critical technology partner. Thanks to those in the loop and already sharing kind wishes. There will be more to share in the coming days and weeks, but today’s agenda will be to start onboarding and getting to work! #gittyup

I'm delighted that GitLab's 2024 global DevSecOps Report shone a light on my favourite topic of Developer Onboarding. 'Time to first commit' is an often underrated metric, in my opinion- organisations that have automated where they can, have a collaborative culture, have good documentation practises and a transparent DevSecOps platform rather than a sprawling toolchain are going to show up well in this metric. And if you're wondering- my 'time to first commit' at GitLab was 5 days, because I added a picture of my dog to GitLab's pets page! https://lnkd.in/dC5qv2QT

In the world of continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD), maintaining system stability during critical periods can be a challenging task. Holidays, product launches, and maintenance windows are all crucial times when introducing new code which can lead to issues that affect user experience. To balance innovation with stability, organizations may need to implement a group-level deploy freeze. This strategic pause in deploying new code changes across groups to certain branches or environments can help keep systems stable during peak activity periods.
