A primary goal of Mariam Matin and I's new venture in the talent space is to promote greater transparency between job seekers and recruiters. Already have thoughts on the job matching process? Share your insights in our 7-min survey here: https://lnkd.in/gBsHJMhV As part of this effort, we've launched a blog series called "Overheard" that features real quotes from job seekers and recruiters about the hiring process, as well as our takeaways. First up is an Overheard from a Job Seeker, who says they "apply to anything remotely of interest, but 99% of the time... don't get a response". Young job seekers will often mass-apply to dozens of postings in an effort to maximize their chances of landing a job. This approach is not only ineffective, but incredibly demoralizing. Moreover, recruiters can tell when an applicant is employing this strategy and will often write them off. Our goal is to build a tool that allows job seekers to focus their efforts on a curated set of opportunities, so they can REALLY maximize their chances in finding the right job for them. https://lnkd.in/gMQ4azie

This past week we had a group of Seattle U alumni panelists speaking to students and many spoke about numerous applications, multiple rounds of interviews, and multiple times as a finalist before eventually landing an offer. This can be disheartening... and it is. Here are some tips to consider if you've faced multiple rejections: 💛 Self-care: Job hunting is stressful. It is ok to take breaks, exercise, and maintain a healthy lifestyle to stay resilient. 🔄 Reflection: Think about your goals and list them. What are your best strengths and skills? Inventory your transferable skills. Which industries would you like to work in? What are adjacent industries and roles? 🎱 Strategy: Adjust your plan and organize your process. Create a spreadsheet to track your applications - company, role, department, application date, and connections. Students and alumni visit your career centers for assistance. 🌎 Diversify and broaden: Don’t focus solely on one job or one industry. Broaden your search and consider different roles or companies that align with your skills, interests, and goals. Remember that all kinds of organizations need all kinds of skills to operate successfully. 🎯 Resist clicking "Easy Apply": Broadening your search does not mean applying to every job opening. Be targeted and methodical in your approach when you apply by tailoring your application materials to specific job descriptions to showcase how you can add value to their needs. 👥 Networking can open doors. Attend industry events, connect with professionals in your alumni network, on LinkedIn, professional organizations/associations, and your community of friends, and reach out for informational interviews. 🗣 Seek Feedback: If possible, ask for feedback on your applications or interviews. This can provide valuable insights into either what may need improvement or information about the company, leaving open the opportunity to be considered for other opportunities particularly if you performed well in an interview. ⭐ Lastly, it can be difficult not to take rejection personally but remember that often, there are numerous factors at play in the hiring process that might not directly relate to your qualifications. Don’t lose hope, be patient, and stay persistent. Protect your peace of mind. You got this! #JobSearchTips #JobHunt #JobSearch #CareerChange #layoffs #JobSeeking #JobSeekingTips

Job Boards: Meeting Talent in a New Way Back in the days before traffic arbitrage, job boards were only as viable as the flow of job seekers they could attract on their own. Today, surveys indicate that the active job seeker population hovers at just 27 percent of the workforce, so it may be time to dust off and apply those old talent attraction skills. But what worked in 2003 is unlikely to be effective in 2023, which begs the question, just what should job boards do to sustain and, even better, increase their flow of applicants? Contrary to popular belief, there's more to recruitment than just posting job ads and waiting for applications to roll in. In today's fast-paced world, candidates aren't just looking for a paycheck; they are seeking opportunities for growth, meaningful work and companies that align with their values. So how do we attract these candidates? Simple: by ensuring our business offers just that. By investing in ongoing learning opportunities for our staff and creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels heard and valued. Connecting with potential candidates on social media channels and showcasing what it's like to work at our company could go a long way. Remember, the best talent won't come looking for us – we must go out and find them.
