I am writing to share my excitement on participating in the Ghana Climate Compatible Growth (CCG) Network’s inception workshop held at the Royal Fiesta Holel in Accra on the 13th-14th September 2023. The event which, was organized jointly by the Brew-Hammond Energy Centre, KNUST and Centre for Global Equity for the Climate Compatible Growth initiative sought to achieve the following objectives: 1. Introduce the Climate Compatible Growth research programme and team members; 2. Learn more about the Ghanaian context, particularly from key members of the energy and transport sectors; 3. Brainstorm how CCG research could spur future economic growth and inclusion in these sectors; 4. Identify opportunities for collaboration after the workshop In attendance to the event were climate and energy sector practitioners drawn from Government, academia, international development, and private sectors. Specifically, participants came from institutions such as #GIZ, Energy Commission, Ministry of Energy, University of Cape Coast, Institute of Industrial Research, Oxford University, #KNUST etc. A key issue that was discussed at the workshop that has relevance for the work of #SNV was on the Ghana’s energy transition and how it could be made inclusive, secured, and sustainable. The development of project ideas around these three themes is also important to SNV. I made several connections at the event to support SNVs business development effort in Ghana. I foresee potential projects and partnerships between SNV, the Ghana Climate Compatible Growth Initiative and KNUST in the areas of promoting carbon and smoke free communities as well as decarbonization and greening of agri-food SMEs to support the attainment of just and inclusive energy transition in Ghana. #SNV #ClimateCompatibleGrowth #JustAndInclusiveEnergyTransition #KNUST #CleanCommunities

Ghana is very rich in natural resources. Especially for the generation of solar energy, the country in West Africa offers very good conditions with its high solar irradiation. At the same time, the demand for energy is constantly increasing due to the growing economy and higher private consumption. However, politics and the economy are unable to meet the increasing demand. On the one hand, there is a lack of innovative technologies for sustainable energy production, and on the other hand, there is potential for improvement in energy efficiency. EWIA Green Investments GmbH, as a German company with its two operating companies on the ground in Ghana, is helping to strengthen Ghana's private sector with its investments in solar plants for local companies. In the meantime, EWIA has created 25 jobs for permanent employees plus about 40 freelance jobs. EWIA's clients (local commercial and industrial clients, C&I) save electricity costs and at the same time make their contribution against climate change. A classic win-win situation for EWIA, its customers and the country! #solar #impact #investments #africa
The EWIA Green Investments GmbH team greets you all from the WACEE - West African Clean Clean Energy & Environment Trade Fair & Conference 18.10.-19.10.2023, in Accra, Ghana. Held annually since 2012, WACEE is a platform for power producers, technology suppliers, investors, industry professionals, policy makers and industry decision makers who are committed to sustainable power and ecosystem development in the region. The participation was applied for by the Afrika-Verein der deutschen Wirtschaft (German - African Business Association)and was again included in the foreign trade fair programme by the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz (Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology). The fair is organised by the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana (AHK Ghana). The event is not only aimed at energy suppliers, but also at companies from the waste disposal and water supply sectors. The demand for energy and environmental technology in Ghana is enormous. Business opportunities for German companies exist in the field of renewable energies (solar power), predominantly in the private sector, especially with agricultural businesses that are not connected to the grid or companies that want to secure their energy supply. #solar #impact #investments #africa

I participated in this amazing workshop that opened up new possibilities and highlighted the importance of biofuels. It was an enriching experience that made me realize the urgency of starting the energy transition. During the event, we discussed crucial strategies to promote the use of clean and sustainable energy. We also learned about the standards for this fuel. During the workshop, I had the opportunity to learn more about the importance of clean cooking access, especially in regions like Africa. This topic was addressed in the report by The International Energy Agency (IEA) and the African Development Bank Group. The report sheds light on the current state of clean cooking, the costs of inaction, and the benefits of improving access in alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goal #7. “MWE had the honor of participating in the Workshop on Developing Bioethanol Economies in Maputo, Mozambique, on September 20-21, 2023. This event, supported by the @United States Agency for International Development USAID in partnership with the American National Standards Institute #ANSI and Pivot Clean Energy Co. (#PIVOT), under the auspices of the @Standards Alliance, was an incredible experience. Over these two days, bioethanol energy and standards experts from the United States and Mozambique had the opportunity to share international best practices and policies for bioethanol standards development, both in the clean cooking and transportation sector. This activity aimed to raise awareness and understanding of relevant international standards for bioethanol quality, safety, and management systems, as well as discuss the adjacent sector impacts on health, environment, climate, and related socio-economic considerations. It was an enriching event that will undoubtedly contribute to our ongoing commitment to clean and sustainable energy. We look forward to applying the knowledge gained and working towards promoting high-quality bioethanol standards in Mozambique. #MWE #cleancooking #Bioethanol #CleanEnergy #InternationalStandards 🌿🌍”

slightly over a year ago, I was honoured with Mikael Alemu Gorsky to be recipients of the Honorary Diploma from the Global Energy Association, for our contribution to the development of energy in the African region. It is a recognition that I don't take lightly. I made a commitment to fear less and do more for me and those around me. We may feel small and insignificant on the global stage but we are not alone. In East Africa we have 459 million people spread across 8 countries with millions of square kilometers, abundant sunshine and the youngest growing population on the planet. We need to break 💔 down the barriers to opportunities, collaboration and better relationship s in order to become a formidable player in the global energy transition opportunities. On June 19th, the Petroleum Outlets Association of Kenya is organizing the first regional Petroleum and Energies Conference in Nairobi. The conference will bring together independent petroleum dealers in the 8 countries to have meaningful discussions and create new relationships needed to benefit from petroleum and renewable energy opportunities. We really are one. One people. One Market. One Humanity. The bantu word for humanity is Ubuntu.

Last month I had one of the most fruitful and interesting trips to Africa in one of the projects we are leading from Mundus, the SHINE - Solar Hands-on training and International Network of Exchange project. In this 3-year initiative we are bringing together experts from the solar industry, training and business to: 1.- Understand the landscape of Nigeria, Uganda and Ghana in the energy transition, with a focus in solar enegery: What are the companies demanding, which are the skills needed, which is the current training offer from VET centres and which are the national policies and strategies. 2.- Create a multi-competence training program to upskill teachers and trainers in the solar sector, including a 2-weeks training in Spain 3.- Co-create curriculum for Solar PV technicians ad hoc to each country, that will be piloted in our partners schools in Ghana, Uganda and Nigeria and scalate it at a national level. Sounds ambitious, but after the fantastic study visits we are having in it does sound feasible. Also, we have a great team of experts. We are ready to dream for that! You can check our key insights in this post and the article we wrote in our website www.shine-project.com
