โ ๐ฌ๐ผ๐ ๐ฎ๐๐ธ๐ฒ๐ฑ - ๐๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ! โ Visa matters can be tricky, especially for EU Blue Card holders wanting to work remotely in another EU country. Unfortunately, specific regulations addressing this scenario, where an EU Blue Card holder wishes to work remotely in another EU country while residing in a different EU member state, may not be explicitly outlined in national legislation or directives. ๐ We get these requests every day, here is our answer to whether the employee needs another visa: The EU Blue Card permits short-term travel within the Schengen Area. Since workations are considered privately motivated trips rather than business trips, your employee can stay in France without needing an additional visa, provided no business activities, such as visiting a local office or attending a conference, are conducted. While specific regulations for this scenario may not be outlined, the principles of freedom of movement and the EU Blue Card Directive support your position. Nevertheless, it never hurts to have a confirmation letter stating the fact that the employee will return to their employment country. Let WorkFlex take care of these documents for you with our automated compliance platform for workation, visa, and business travel. ๐ Stay informed, stay compliant! #VisaServices #EUBLueCard #WorkFlex #Workation #ImmigrationLaw

The UK government is introducing a progressive change to visitor visa regulations, allowing remote working starting from January 31, 2024. This significant shift, as highlighted by global immigration law firm Fragomen, demonstrates a crucial acknowledgement of evolving work patterns and opens the door to the concept of 'work-cations.' Visitors in the UK can now engage in remote work related to their overseas employment, facilitating a harmonious blend of work and leisure without the need for an additional work visa. The new law acknowledges the necessity for flexible work arrangements, enabling visitors to incorporate brief work periods during their stay without the burden of additional paperwork. Recognising the enduring impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on work practices, the revised regulations align with these changes, accommodating individuals seeking to integrate vacation and work. Embracing the Work-cation Trend! The forward-thinking approach adopted by the UK sets a precedent, prompting speculation about whether other European countries will adjust their immigration frameworks to embrace the growing trend of remote work and travel. ๐ Do I need an ETA or (will I need an) ETIAS for remote work? While ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) for the UK and ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) to the Schengen Area facilitate short-term visits for visa free nationals, they may not suffice for remote work arrangements. And they definitely are not equivalent to permission to perform all activities. โ๏ธ ETA and ETIAS streamline entry procedures. However, their standard scope is limited to tourism, business trips, and certain short stays. ๐ผ Remote work necessitates compliance with employment laws, tax regulations, and immigration requirements. ๐ Depending on your employment circumstances, the length of your trip and the country you're visiting, your ETA or ETIAS may be sufficient to perform remote work. Alternatively, you may need to explore visa options tailored for remote work or consider obtaining a work visa. And super importantly: check with your employment for compliance with their internal policies! Further questions? Do you consider yourself a digital nomad and travel for work? This could all change this month as the UK Government implements new immigration rules which expand activities under the Standard Visitor visa. For example, remote work in the UK isn't permitted as a primary purpose to visit, however, they will be allowing flexibility regarding business visitors so that they can engage in a wider range of business activities that are remote (as long as it's not the primary cause of their stay). If you often travel and work in a remote capacity, it's worth reading up on the changes here: https://bit.ly/3RL3rui #DigitalNomad #RemoteWork #VisaRules

๐ฎ๐น The other side of the Italyโs Digital Nomad Visa? Theoretically speaking, the Italy digital nomad visa offers great opportunities to many, however, the difficult part can be actually obtaining it. Letโs find out! โ A โdigital nomadโ is defined as a non-EU citizen who performs highly skilled remote work in Italy, either as a freelancer (digital nomad) or as an employee/collaborator of a company (remote worker), which can also be based outside Italy. The visa is exempt from the โquotaโ limits, and it is not necessary to obtain any work permits (nulla osta) in Italy before applying for the visa. As of April 4, remote workers and self-employed people can apply to live in Italy for up to a year. However, as with any nomad visa, there are a few requirements. Applicants need to earn at least โฌ28,000 (ยฃ23,992.50) per year (triple the minimum level required for exemption from Italian healthcare costs), arrange health insurance and accommodation for the duration of their stay, and not have been convicted of a crime in the last five years. One perk is that there are no specific education requirements. However, according to Euronews, the visa is being managed under Article 27 of Italyโs immigration code, which means itโs aimed specifically at highly skilled workers. However, the tax nomads will have to pay is still unclear. You could be required to contribute 5 percent income tax plus 23 percent towards social contributions, but Damien OโFarrell, a global mobility expert, suggested you speak to an Italian tax pro before you apply. Tempted? Youโll need to kick off your application with an in-person appointment at an Italian consulate in your home country. Bring your passport, proof of employment, proof of income, proof of accommodation, health insurance, and a criminal record certificate. If you're self-employed, you must also apply for an Italian VAT number. All successful nomads have eight days after arriving to get a residence permit, aka permesso di soggiorno. We have plenty of content to inspire you if you need a final nudge. Hereโs a roundup of Italyโs best islands, beaches, and small towns and villages, as well as some compilations of the best things to do in Rome, Milan, Venice, and Naples.
