Great journey maps reveal the intersections of user needs. Over the years, I've seen many teams make the mistake of designing a customer journey they want people to follow, then try to find evidence to support it. This approach is backward. I often ask teams why they've included a particular step in the flow. The answers are usually based on a consensus of what they think makes a good flow, a requirement from a business group, or a technical limitation. The goal of the journey map is to: → Focus on steps that create value for the customer → Ensure a high return in value for the business → Eliminate unnecessary screens or steps that aren’t useful Journey maps are business tools used to create alignment. Users have no value in them. Instead of designing flows and then trying to validate the on-screen content, it's better to start by learning from users by observing their actions. Get input from the team on how they can support the customer. Identify the most common touch points and build the journeys around those areas. #productdesign #productdiscovery #userresearch #uxresearch
