For Recycle Week 2023, the theme is 'The Big Recycling Hunt', encouraging us all to think about those items that we often overlook to make sure we're recycling everything we can. But when these materials have been captured, where do they go? Veolia's leading recycling infrastructure means that we have a wealth of specialist facilities ready to extract value from resources, and process materials for reuse. These include: - Our plastics facility in Dagenham, where bales of used plastic milk bottles arrive ready to be sorted, shredded and turned into pellets. These pellets are then sent onto another facility ready to be made into new bottles, with the entire process able to take place in under two weeks. - Our battery recycling facility in Minworth, which will have the capacity to process 20% of the UK’s end of life electric vehicle batteries by 2024. The process of urban mining enables valuable metals to be extracted from end-of-life batteries. - Our Woodlands In-Vessel Composting Facility in Whitesmith, where green garden waste and food waste are taken to be composted on a large scale, ready to be turned into a usable product that can replace artificial fertilisers and soil treatment products. Since 1987, our recycling system has been efficiently repurposing furnace scrap, significantly contributing to our sustainability goals. 📍 Trnava: Our state-of-the-art recycling unit, launched in 2021, boasts a recycling capacity exceeding three tons per hour, converting glass waste back into valuable raw material. This effort diverts more than ten thousand tons of waste from landfills every year. Geneco’s Used Red Packet Recycling Initiative is back! 🧧 For the 4th consecutive year, REFASH and Geneco SG are joining forces to enhance accessibility to Geneco’s recycling bins! Join us in recycling red packets at these selected locations: https://lnkd.in/g2iibcBc 🌟 What happens to these red packets?  ➡️ They are collected and passed to SG Recycle to be given a second life of purpose! Why should we recycle our red packets here?  ➡️ Once our efforts to reduce and reuse are maximised, the next best thing to do is to recycle! ♻️ ➡️ Red packets traditionally cannot be recycled in our typical NEA blue recycling bin due to the large amount of red ink and other materials mixed into them, hence, these bins are dedicated to solely red packets. ➡️ Collecting these red packets in bulk every year also reduces the time taken to sort through red packet waste and allows for quicker removal of contaminants before they are mixed with similar papers of low quality. At TerraCycle, we track and trace all the waste we receive for recycling very seriously. For that, we've developed a bespoke tracking system with Evreka which allows us to : - record automatically all waste movements from the moment a label is generated for shipping all the way to recycling - provide detailed and precise reporting to our customers and a real-time view of when their waste is received by TerraCycle. This system is in place globally and for all of our solutions: whether National Recycling Programmes, Zero Waste Boxes and Bags, or freight recycling. In short, we treat waste in the same way others treat inventory and all our collectors and clients can have full confidence that their waste is appropriately managed and recycled. The Global Recycling Day founded by the Global Recycling Foundation is observed on 18 March every year. It is a day to promote recycling and conservation by educating people about the status of essential resources. Recycling is a key part of the circular economy, helping to protect natural resources and we at Exel are committed to finding new innovative solutions for recycling composites and saving resources in our industry. “Although we don’t have all the answers yet, we’re committed to honest conversations with all our stakeholders and continually developing more sustainable composite processes. It's Global Recycling Day, and we're talking all things Circular Economy ♻️ Not sure what Circular Economy is? In basic terms, a circular economy is a system focused on minimizing waste by reusing, recycling, and regenerating materials and products to create a closed-loop system. The aim is to use as little raw material as possible by recycling any waste created during a process. The waste would get put back into the process and reused over and over again to create new material/product! Sometimes it can be the smallest things that stand in the way of recycling, as Juha Laihonen, OC PAROC’s Circular Economy Lead in the Nordics, writes in his blog post: “To find new and innovative possibilities of collecting and utilizing even more customer offcuts and demolition waste in stone wool production, it is important to have a deep understanding of how building sites work. It is still not rare to find plastic coffee mugs amongst offcuts.
