It is very important to understand the differences in measuring a transducer in steady state or transitory state. The two images show a loudspeaker measured by the CrossLite “Displacement” function. This function measures the cone displacement, velocity and acceleration, by a high-precision laser, and compare with the voltage at the amplifier output for compressor/limiter calibration. With a amplitude modulated sinusoidal signal, a consistent displacement is perceived, however, after applying a filtered pink noise signal, the behavior of the cone is very different from the excitation signal, it means ERROR. This is one of the reasons why loudspeakers with equivalent response curves and THD levels, sound very different to our ears. 🎼 Most Class-D amplifiers 🔊 can be measured directly with my Audio Precision because the analyzer inputs are relatively immune to common mode noise 💪🏻 However, sometimes I have to put a special low pass measurement filter between the output of the amplifier and the input of the analyzer - how good that I have one 😁 This case happen mostly with novel class-D amplifiers with simple HF ferrite beads instead of an classic LC output filter. Simple filter with ferrite beads and small MLCC is necessary for EMC and the rest of low pass filtering is performed in the speaker itself 👍🏻 #audiodesign #hardwaredesign #measurement
