🚜🌾 Reflecting on my journey at Agro Consortium over the past two and a half years, I am proud of the growth and impact we've achieved in implementing climate-resilience projects. Witnessing firsthand the critical role of agricultural insurance has been eye-opening. This insurance serves as a lifeline for smallholder farmers facing unforeseen climatic risks, enabling them to recover and sustain their livelihoods. These initiatives are most successful when we work in partnership with governments, funders, and impact-driven private organizations. It's important to acknowledge the many challenges that grassroots farmers face, with climate change being the greatest threat. Often, insurance is the crucial support that keeps them going. Agricultural insurance is essential to building resilience for farmers and ensuring the future of food security in Africa. Let's embrace and support these vital initiatives. 🌍🤝 #Agriculture #Insurance #ClimateResilience #FoodSecurity #Impact #Collaboration #AgroConsortium #insuresilience #isf #InsuresilienceSolutionsFund #FrankfurtSchoolofFinance #ClimateFinance

🌾🌍Farmers in low- and middle-income countries are especially susceptible to the impacts of climate-induced weather events. But agricultural insurance and climate-smart technologies can help. Despite the low uptake of insurance due to issues like trust and financial constraints, evidence shows that tailored insurance products, paired with risk-mitigating technologies, can significantly improve farmers' resilience. With the security that insurance provides, farmers are more inclined to invest in higher-risk, higher-reward agricultural practices, compared to their willingness without such insurance. The CEGA and J-PAL co-managed Digital Agricultural Innovations and Services Initiative (DAISI) explores how digital and bundled agricultural services can aid small-scale farmers and contribute to global food security in the face of escalating climate challenges. Agriculture contributes to over 30% of GDP in most African countries but probably less than 2% of farmers have access to insurance yet agriculture is one of the riskiest ventures one can get into – exposed to weather related risks and natural calamities and sometimes price volatility which can get worse with the impact of climate change so de-risking investment in agriculture becomes critical for sustainable development. Paying claims quickly in general is always good. It's a good user experience. It's desirable and we should do it. But paying claims quickly is *great* when the fast payment actually helps change the outcome. Agriculture parametric insurance and predictive parametric insurance can help farmers react better.
