After 4 inspiring days discussing the challenges and opportunities of satellite and geodata for food security, the conclusion is: the opportunities are abundant, we are on the right track, but there is a long way to go. Cooperation is crucial. We took an important step this week together with Rabo Foundation within the Geodata for Agriculture and Water program. Thanks everyone for participating! #spaceforfoodsecurity

In late May and early June, the NSO - Netherlands Space Office Geodata for Agriculture and Water (G4AW) & Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development Orange Corners facilitated a two-week geo-ICT hackathon in Bamako, Mali. A geo-ICT hackathon is an event where participants collaborate intensively to develop innovative solutions using geographic information and communication technologies. Local implementation by Orange Sparks and Hoefsloot Spatial Solutions aimed to develop technical solutions and business models for local challenges in the agricultural sector. The event drew inspiration from the G4AW project #STAMP, a public private partnership implemented by SNV. This project, focused on geo-ICT advice for pastoralists, has demonstrated how satellite data can become the basis of local services such as Garbal, which is provided in partnership with Orange Mali. These services provide market information and routing advice towards fresh biomass and water and significantly reduce livestock mortality, reduce conflicts, and create business opportunities for local entrepreneurs. During the hackathon, the Minister of Livestock of Mali visited the #Garbal call center, where advice is processed and delivered. The enthusiasm and high level of knowledge among the participants are truly inspiring. This initiative not only highlights the potential of satellite data in addressing local issues but also fosters innovation and economic growth in Mali. #Innovation #Sustainability #SatelliteData #MaliHackathon #LocalSolutions #EconomicGrowth #TechForGood #G4AW #OrangeCorners #Garbal #Digital4Development #Mali

We, NSO - Netherlands Space Office, are proud that, as an early adopter, we have been able to contribute to stimulating the development of so-called Digital Climate Advisory Services. Thanks to all our partners in Geodata for Agriculture and Water program, more than a million food producers have access to advice and/or financial services. All this was made possible with financial support from Inclusive Green Growth Department of Ministry of Foreign of the Netherlands. #MinBZ Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development https://lnkd.in/e7V6cvJt

Some inspiring reflections on last weeks workshop on “Towards a Roadmap for Greater Use and Adoption of Geodata for M&E” organised together with Bopinc. It was an in person and interactive workshop deliberating on two main questions: - How might we better measure and evaluate the impacts of digital service providers contributing to food and nutritional security in emerging economies? - How might we leverage geodata for M&E and impact measurement in projects supporting food and nutritional security? The outcomes of this workshop will contribute to the development of an M&E plan for future donors programmes like NSO - Netherlands Space Office's Geodata for Agriculture and Water (G4AW) programme and provide valuable insights for a roadmap to enhance the use of geodata in M&E within the development sector. #geodata #MonitoringAndEvaluation #digitalisation #space4sdg
👇 Some reflections on last week’s workshop organized by NSO - Netherlands Space Office, addressing a fascinating topic that increasingly gains attention: “Geospatial (and EO) data adoption in M&E” 🛰️ I was glad about the kind invitation to share lessons from #GDA and also capitalize on experiences from the national #G4AW programme 🌾 👉 Kees van Duijvendijk, Ruud Grim, Hardik Parmar, Patrick Guyer 🚀 As we look ahead, the roadmap for greater geospatial data adoption in M&E holds immense promise. The potential for targeted interventions, real-time monitoring, and improved decision-making is unparalleled. Within the partnership framework of #GDA, we aim to stimulate and eagerly anticipate further discussions and collaborations to harness this transformative power for a brighter future in development operations 🌍 #AcceleratingImpact 📈
