As someone who has been in the tech industry for over four decades, I can say without a doubt that today is an incredibly exciting day for me. Starting at Veritas in 2000 and continuing on to Symantec for a total of 16 years, and now at Cohesity, I've witnessed, firsthand, the exponential growth in both the amount of data and the threats against it. But during that same 24 years, I’ve been blessed to also see the rise and maturity of the cloud and the beginning of the democratization of AI. Building upon that history, Cohesity and Veritas will bring the tools necessary to protect and secure all that data as well as provide insights into it, helping organizations strengthen their business resilience. Ask questions! As engineers I think this is the singular greatest skill you can try to hone in on early on in your career. Whether they're related to business, technicals, or social - people appreciate your desire to learning more. 🚀 What's something new you've recently learned or a skill you're currently developing? Transitioning from an engineer to a managerial role involves a significant shift, particularly in responsibility delineation. Many thanks to Skip Newberry (he, him), President and CEO of Technology Association of Oregon (TAO), for an insightful presentation to Link Oregon's Board yesterday. We are a member of TAO, an organization focused on fostering an inclusive, innovative economy in the Pacific Northwest and doing important work as a convenor and "dots connector" for the tech ecosystem across Oregon. Skip shared overall trends in the tech sector in our state, touching on hiring trends, the skills gap and the need to align workforce talent development with emerging organizational needs in areas such as Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity. In light of the recent hiring slowdown in the big tech/private sector, Skip also noted the availability of a large pool of skilled digital professionals seeking new opportunities, opening the door for nonprofits and the public sector to attract and create successful career pathways for this talent. This is particularly true for Government, which is seeing a new influx of significant investment in areas such as broadband infrastructure and digital equity with federal programs such as BEAD (Broadband Equity Access & Deployment). The content on employment trends and future workforce development was especially relevant to our Board, which includes senior IT leaders from Oregon's Government and Research Universities -- both are key catalysts that feed our state's innovation engines with strategic policies, investments and talent pipeline development for a future-ready Oregon. #Oregontech #BEAD #futureofwork #Oregonjobs
