The Object of Rotary is a philosophical statement of Rotary’s purpose and the responsibilities of Rotarians. The concept of vocational service is rooted in the Second Object, which calls on Rotarians to “encourage and foster”: Those objectives are: To encourage and foster high ethical standards in business and professions, to recognise the worthiness of all useful occupations, to dignify the Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society. To apply the ideal of service in personal, business and community life. To advance international understanding and goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of businessmen and professional men and women united in the ideal of service. Paul Harris wrote: "Each Rotarian is a connecting link between the idealism of Rotary and their trade or profession". Vocational Service is the way Rotary fosters and supports the application of the Ideal of Service to the pursuit of all vocations. It is the shared responsibility of both the Rotary Club and its members. The role of the Club is to implement and encourage the objectives by its own actions in dealing with the community and by the development of projects that enable members to use their vocational talents in the service of the community. The role of members is to conduct themselves and their businesses in accordance with Rotary principles, and support the Vocational Service projects that the club has developed. During January, Rotarians are encouraged to focus on this important avenue of Rotary service. Discussions on vocational service can lead to projects that not only develop the ethical consciousness and vocational skills of Rotarians but also the talents within their communities. Vocational Service Month is an opportunity to begin year-long vocational service activities, ranging from Rotary discussions to awards to community projects. #rotaryinternational #rotaryclub #rotaryvocational #rotaryvocation #rotaryvocationalservice

In recent weeks, the BSA team, along with our partners at the University of Portsmouth and RNLI, have been conducting research on the floating ability of those in the Black and Asian community. This research is being done to not only prove the myths of Black participation in aquatics to be false, but to also provide valuable information to the participants on their unique floating style. Traditionally, the "Starfish Method" has long been taught as the way to float. While this method may work for some, there is a large proportion of swimmers and non swimmers that cannot use this technique to keep their nose and mouth out of the water. And unsurprisingly, we have seen so far in the research that each participant involved in the study has had slight variation in their floating style, hence why we have coined the term: FIND YOUR FLOAT While the statistics and measurements are important, helping our participants find their float is a reward beyond measure. We have seen major lightbulb moments for some participants as they realize that they indeed can float, and that they do have a space in the water to feel comfortable and capable of enjoying aquatics. If you would like to be a participant in our Float Research, you can click the link below to sign up and help bridge the gap in the aquatics sector. Bit.ly/BSAFloatResearch

The UK’s current decision to suspend the Chevening Scholarship in Afghanistan is deeply concerning .This world-class educational program builds future leaders and connects them to a powerful global network. In the current situation, Afghans need access to education more than ever to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills to improve their circumstances. As a Chevening alumnus, I urge the UK not to exclude Afghans from this golden opportunity. By halting Chevening in Afghanistan, we risk losing the potential of those who are poised to drive positive change. Chevening has empowered countless Afghans to return home and lead with purpose. Now, more than ever, we must ensure this vital program continues, especially for those who need it most. #KeepCheveningAlive #EmpowerAfghanFutureLeaders #CheveningforAfghans #EducationForAfghans #CheveningForChange #RestoreCheveningForAfghans #WorldClassOpportunity
