Encouraged to learn that #Cholera vaccines from the @Gavi-funded global vaccine stockpile will soon arrive in Nigeria to help curb the country’s deadly and ongoing outbreak. We stand ready to work with our partners UNICEF and World Health Organization to support the Ministry of Health’s timely efforts to contain this outbreak and protect those at highest risk. Despite the large number of cholera outbreaks this year, our stockpile is now fully replenished, and production continues at maximum capacity. We hope to keep supporting cholera affected countries with their control plans. #stopcholera

Much as I appreciate the amazing job done by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance in supporting Cholera epidemic response by providing life-saving vaccines, I think Nigeria and by extension the African Union member countries should intensify efforts and crystallize tangible commitments toward local manufacturing of vaccines. I know efforts have started in that direction but we must accelerate it's actualization given that Africa is the epicenter for vaccine-preventable diseases. We can not continue to always go cap-in-hand to solicit for support all the time. THIS IS NOT SUSTAINABLE. Thanks again Sania Nishtar for your outstanding leadership at GAVI and the support to Nigeria. It is absolutely appreciated.

A Small but Significant Step Towards a Bigger Goal 1.Access to safe water*: Ensure a reliable source of clean drinking water. Use water filters, purification tablets, or boil water before consumption. 2. *Hygiene practices*: - Wash hands frequently with soap and clean water. - Use hand sanitizers if soap and water are unavailable. - Maintain proper toilet hygiene and dispose of waste properly. 3. *Food safety*: - Avoid consuming undercooked or raw seafood, especially in high-risk areas. - Avoid eating foods from street vendors or stalls. - Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly before consumption. 4. *Vaccination*: Consider getting vaccinated against cholera if you live in a high-risk area or are traveling to an affected region. 5. *Surveillance*: Stay informed about local cholera outbreaks and take necessary precautions. 6. *Preparedness*: - Store a supply of clean water, non-perishable food, and hygiene essentials. - Have a plan for emergency situations, including knowing nearby healthcare facilities. Remember prevention and preparedness are key to protecting yourself and your family from a cholera pandemic. #choleraprevention

If we can support Gavi for this cause, then please let us know. We would be more than happy to provide our modular and sustainable cold chain packaging for the efficient transportation of vaccines. During COVID pandemic we also supported Gavi with our packaging. https://eutecma.com/

Good decision by Gavi. Nigeria should have a stockpile being an endemic country and be prepared before it is too late as bureaucratic bottleneck from both Gavi and the GON delays and often reaches after the outbreak is gone.
