3 weeks ago, I gave the next version of my "Practical Models of Our Solar System's Future" talk at The Mars Society convention. I'd like to keep iterating on this talk for a wider audience, so feedback is welcome! https://lnkd.in/d7huAX5W ------------ Abstract: Multiple visions of the future solar system exist within the space community, with different focuses, different priorities, and different destinations, but all with the common aim of establishing a permanent human presence throughout the solar system. This talk will attempt to provide a systemic overview of these future solar systems, informed by resource availability, ISRU technologies, ∆V requirements, transit times, transfer window frequency, proximity, and the required technologies to enable each of them. Special focus will be given to the four futures as described by Werner Von Braun, Carl Sagan, Gerard O’Neill, and Robert Zubrin. What common features do they have? What are their key differences?

Policy analyst, strategic planner, and sustainability advocate with managerial experience and innovative ideas
Let me know if you'll be at NAF. I'll be moderating this panel, which emerged from my time facilitating the Inland SoCal Climate Collaborative (ISC3). It's looking at how solar panels over croplands in this major agricultural region are reducing evaporation/water use, improving working conditions for farmers, increasing crop yields/carbon sequestration, and producing renewable energy -- all of which make these working lands more economically viable and able to withstand sprawl development pressures.

🌍 Can we rely just on techno-fixes to tackle climate change and growing social inequalities? 🇪🇸 From Spain to 🇬🇷 Greece, energy communities provide a framework of local, democratic governance to technologically innovative solutions, such as agri-voltaics or shared electric mobility. This 'socially-innovative' component should be recognised and rewarded by policymakers. Growing demand 📈, coupled with the exhaustion of low-cost solutions, is fueling the need for new sources of carbon credits beyond the afforestation, reforestation, and restoration projects currently dominating supply. To meet carbon removal targets by nature-based removal alone would require the afforestation of land larger than the US 🤯! To meet this challenge, we need to diversify sources of carbon credit supply, improve market access for African projects, and harness new tools and approaches that enable scale, rigor, and speed. Since our beginnings, Tribes and Indigenous communities have recognized our sun as deserving of perpetual reverence and respect for providing life to our communities, plants, animals, and everything we depend upon. As we continue navigating current energy development and its impacts, the sun through community solar provides an opportunity to restore a healthy, interdependent, and clean energy stewardship paradigm while promoting Tribal energy sovereignty and economic empowerment.
