More and more companies are installing compressed air flow meters to gain insights into their compressed air systems. But where is the best place to install a flow meter? The key question is: what do you want to measure? If your goal is to assess whether your compressor is operating efficiently, then the flow meter should be installed before the air receiver. In this case, a wet gas flow meter, such as a pitot tube technology is typically used. When combined with an electrical power meter, you create insight in the specific power, usually expressed in kW/m³/min. A value of 6 kW/m³/min is considered good for a 7-bar system. If you're aiming to analyse air consumption (or the demand profile), the flow meter should be placed after the air receiver. For this purpose, a dry air flow meter, such as a thermal mass flow meter, is the most suitable choice. #compressedair; #flowmeter; #energyefficiency
