As we conclude Jordan Garber's #internship with us, we would like to highlight some of the insights he gained while supporting our Property Management team. 1️⃣ What has been your favorite project during your internship? "Formulating and analyzing the 2024 Residential Market Analysis was a challenging and rewarding experience that made me feel like an integral part of the team." 2️⃣ What new skills have you learned with us? "I became extremely adept at utilizing Excel and formulating data quickly and efficiently. I also learned the importance of planning my week in advance to maximize my weekly production." 3️⃣ How has this internship influenced your career goals? "It fortified my desire to pursue a career in commercial real estate development and leasing." 4️⃣ What advice would you give to future interns? "Be prepared to work hard. Give your all to every task, and it will pay off in the end." 5️⃣ What are your plans after this internship ends? "My plan is to enjoy the rest of the summer, play lots of golf, spend time at the lake, and come fall, complete my final year at the Asper School of Business." When you’re putting together your first team, there are always questions about what kind of talent pool you’ll have, will they be the right fit for your mission, will they help you grow while you help them grow, will they be worth the time… Start-ups are still creating the systems and processes that make a business run like a well-oiled machine, so there are too many unknowns. And bringing in new people is always a gamble. PJ Bellantoni & I were blown away by the talent applying for our internships as we were interviewing candidates. The experience, the passion, and the diversity in almost every way was incredible. It forced us to move past our idea of hiring one or two interns and hire SIX. Three started this week and another attended our May meet and greet before starting Monday. This group did NOT disappoint!! Seeing Avery Fly, Alexis Hallum, Jalen Mitchell, and Elena Masio come together with PJ, myself, and others in the Jax sports community and fit IN and TOGETHER like we’ve been a team for YEARS was indescribable. Despite having very different experience and backgrounds, we were immediately a TEAM…because what ties us together is the business mission and hearts to serve. Can’t wait to add Kitan Olaleke-Banjo and Kinsley Reliford to this already extraordinary team in the next month!!! Today, my summer internship with Altria came to an end. Being my first ever internship and corporate experience, this summer has been an absolutely incredible learning experience for me. I never knew a company could be full of such incredible people with incredible values, who would help push me to be a better me everyday. Pictured here are my fellow Michigan State Interns. What a joy they were to be around this summer, and I am going to miss them all dearly as we wrap up this experience. While pursuing a role in sales was something considerably foreign to me, the ways I've developed as a business professional are insurmountable. I had opportunities to consult retail managers, analyze data, identify business opportunities, and make a real, tangible difference for convenience store retailers in SE Michigan. Huge shoutouts to my Sr. Market Manager, Rob McGowan, as well as my Sales Manager Coach, Dion Boose for their top-of-the-line instruction, encouragement, and support in my time as an intern. Without them, the Altria experience would not have been what it was for me, and I'll take all of their information and learnings as I transition from university life into the professional world. All in all, I wouldn't trade this experience for anything. Thank you Altria for giving me a summer worth remembering. Completing various projects this summer as a Business Development intern for Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group has given me the opportunity to explore my interests and enhance my skills! Shanita Byrd, SHRM-CP, PHR was instrumental during the hiring process and ensured that my internship ran smoothly.  She provided opportunities for me to work on various projects, which helped me identify my interests. I’d like to thank everyone that helped plan intern events including the Coffee & Convos meetings. The interns got advice from the executive leadership team and the CEO. One thing that I learned is that your major does not have to define your career path and there are many opportunities available. Another takeaway is that you should always be open to trying new things. Some members of the executive leadership team shared how they took risks or tried positions even if it wasn’t a career step up, which ultimately contributed to their success. Working with Avery Marable, Carly Byrum, Brandon Rohrer, Dan Nguyen, and Luke, even while being in a remote environment, went smoothly as everyone cooperatively split up work, completed each task before our weekly meetings, and shared ideas that were always on topic and insightful. YuVonda guided our group by giving us direction that helped us achieve success together. Reading Developing the Leader Within You 2.0 by Maxwell, John and discussing a chapter each week has helped me critically think about many things including behavior, influence, and self-improvement. Each chapter encompassed many lessons and tips that can benefit everyone.  Steve Powell, growth and leadership coach, effectively guided the business development team’s discussions and pointed out important aspects that we were able to address more in-depth. He was able to connect our views and experiences to points in the book, deepening our understanding of each topic.   I am also grateful that I was able to participate in Fannie Mae's Future Housing Leaders program where I was able to learn about the housing industry and earn certificates! Jordan Duty, thank you for guiding me with my projects! Lastly, I will miss Thea Chambers for always creating a warm environment and showing her appreciation even when only a little task was completed.

Intern Spotlight! ✨ Name: Lilly Aabye What school you attend & year: Georgia Institute of Technology & Year 3 How did you find your internship at RC? I found Ruby Collins through a personal connection. David Westrick is my next-door neighbor and I approached him about an opportunity to intern with the company the summer going into my senior year of high school. This step allowed me to gain valuable insights and experience in the industry at a young age. Why did you choose an internship in construction? I chose an internship in construction because I find it intellectually stimulating to see the tangible results of my work. Despite fewer women in the industry, I was determined to experience all construction had to offer and all of the things you continuously learn. Additionally, the construction industry provides long-term career opportunities due to its high demand. What do you do outside of school for fun? I love running, traveling, attending concerts, talking to my friends, and experiencing new things. What is your favorite part of your internship so far? My favorite part of my internship is the culture of the company- everyone wants to get to know the interns and treats them with equal respect. Additionally, there is always something new to learn regardless of how long you have worked for Ruby-Collins. What was your childhood dream job? I watched a lot of Grey’s Anatomy as a child and was convinced I was going to be a surgeon. Anything else? I really appreciate how valued I feel here.
