My first lesson: A.T.D! Attention To Detail. Fresh out of university, and having landed my first graduate job, I was in for a steep learning curve. I started my career as a Management Graduate Trainee with GB Liners Removals. I was under the watchful eye of Richard Allen, who gave me 2 rules to work by, the first of which was "A.T.D: Attention To Detail!". Regardless of the role you are in, you are your own 'Brand'. Be it operational, sales, directorial, leadership, or you're just starting out, starting with an eye on the details builds your brand. As the saying goes, "The devil is in the details". Moving home is one of the most stressful times in your life, and having a mover coming in to move your home and possessions, is a daunting task. It's a job for removals/relocation, working closely as a team and part of a well-oiled machine. But the instructions they receive have to be detailed, as each family will have different priorities. Take your time to gather these important details! All that information needs to be gathered, and paying attention to the details will compile a product that the customer has asked and wanted for, but also gives them the feeling of being heard and listened to. Paying attention to the details, every step of the way. This 'promise' to your client/network/peers/colleagues, by making sure you convey all the details from consultation, through to planning, and execution, will build their trust in you. Those finer details set you apart, build and strengthen your brand, as well as trust. A big thank you to Richard, for this early lesson! What details do you need/require/provide to perform your job to the best of your abilities? #attentiontodetail #personalbranding #careerdevelopment

INTERNAL COMPETENCE THROUGH SMART TRAINEE PROGRAMS Lessons from My Industrial Digital Transformation Journey (8/10) Competence is always a challenge—everyone says that. But as a leader, you can’t pass the blame. One of the most important responsibilities is to make your workplace an attractive place to be. It’s not just about money; you don’t want people who are solely driven by that. It’s about creating a culture, a sense of community, and most importantly, a shared mission for success. You want colleagues who stay, who are passionate about the company and what you’re collectively working toward. When it comes to building great teams, nothing beats working hard and delivering together. And by “delivering,” I mean implementing successfully and having enthusiastic users who have been part of the journey with you. Speed is essential, and that journey starts with a world-class partner. What we did at Munters was give our partner the task of bringing in junior team members. After a year of working alongside our teams as part of the delivery process, the goal was for them to be offered full-time positions at Munters. This exceeded our expectations, bringing in highly skilled and motivated employees who were already familiar with our processes and have proven to stay long-term. We created an effective system for trainee programs that ensured new competence stayed and developed within the company. By offering structured programs, interesting work and the best colleauges, we were able to attract and retain talent that was crucial for our future growth. Key Lesson: A well-designed trainee program is key to building and retaining vital competence within a company. By investing in the development of employees, we were able to attract a strong and engaged new workforce ready to meet future challenges. The ability to attract new talents also strenghens the culture and confidence along the more seasoned employees. This strategy is instrumental for ensuring long-term success.

How are we extracting value from our Graduate Trainees ? How are we giving the promised value through "traineeship" to our Graduate Trainees? We recently finished designing a robust and structured Graduate Learnership Program for one of our clients. As i admired the level of investment and involvement the management and supervisory team had in learning about the implementation of the program, it got me thinking... do we really utilise GTs for the value they are intended for? Or do we take them for people who do the most trivial and repetitive tasks ever ? Make me coffee... print papers... file papers... run an errand... Could that be all the value an organisation can get ? Or are we missing out on a lot of untapped talent, enthusiasm, dedication and excitement to learn or grow. During the session we had a lot of conversations of how both our GTs and the organisations they are serving can both obtain value from each other. A robust structured way of managing them, that leads to accountability for both partners is the key... Training people is tougher than I remembered. At Griffin Recruitment, we've recently welcomed some new starters, and it’s been an eye-opening experience. What seems second nature to me, after years in the industry, can sometimes lead to blank stares when I explain it to someone new. It’s a humbling reminder that just because something feels easy now doesn’t mean it’s easy to learn. It’s not their challenge—it’s mine. The onus is on me to guide them and take the time to train them properly. This experience has made one thing clear: when I’m speaking with clients, especially about hiring Graduate or Trainee Consultants, I’m going to place a real emphasis on the importance of a solid training programme. Because there’s a world of difference between ‘winging it’ and following a structured, week-by-week plan that sets people up for success. #Training #NewStarters #LearningAndDevelopment

Graduate trainee programs are structured initiatives designed to develop recent graduates into future leaders and skilled professionals within an organisation. I will highlight some of the reasons why these programs are important: 𝑻𝒂𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑷𝒊𝒑𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒆: They help organisations build a pipeline of skilled and knowledgeable employees who are aligned with the company’s culture and values. 𝑺𝒌𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝑫𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕: These programs focus on comprehensive training and development, providing graduates with technical skills, industry knowledge, and soft skills such as leadership, communication, and problem-solving. This holistic approach helps in molding well-rounded professionals. 𝑹𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑳𝒐𝒚𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒚: Graduate trainee programs often increase employee loyalty and retention. Participants who start their careers with such programs are more likely to feel valued and committed to the organisation, reducing turnover rates. 𝑰𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑭𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒉 𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒔: Graduates bring fresh ideas and perspectives, which can drive innovation. Their up to date knowledge from academic institutions can help in introducing new methodologies and technologies to the company. 𝑺𝒖𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈: These programs support succession planning by preparing a pool of potential leaders. This ensures that there are qualified candidates ready to step into senior roles as they become available. 𝑩𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰𝒎𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑨𝒕𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔: Companies known for strong graduate programs often attract high quality candidates. This enhances the organisation’s brand image as an employer of choice and helps in attracting top talent. 𝑪𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈: Organisations can tailor the training to meet specific business needs, ensuring that graduates develop the exact skills and knowledge required for the company’s growth and success. 𝑫𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰𝒏𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏: Graduate programs can be designed to attract a diverse group of candidates, promoting a more inclusive workplace. This diversity can lead to a more dynamic and creative work environment. In summary, graduate trainee programs are vital for organisational growth and sustainability. They provide a strategic approach to talent development, ensuring companies have a steady influx of skilled professionals who are well-prepared to contribute to the organisation's success. I have been privileged to Steer & Support the graduate program. These programs aim to address skill shortages, promote continuous learning, and foster professional development.
