"Finishing uni, I wanted to jump straight into the workplace, and joining g2 Recruitment has been brilliant. My team and manager have all supported me in going from student to Recruiter, and I'm not looking back one bit!" The transition from University to a full-time career is definitely a shift; however, one of our most recent new starters, Nick Thomas, has taken it in his stride. He even received the exciting news that he has secured a first-class Degree, and we couldn't be more pleased for him; congratulations! We wish all the best to all final-year students who are also receiving long-awaited results this summer. #graduatetalent #g2recruitmentcareers #careerdevelopment Nottingham Trent University

Here's the thing... Top talent continues to be associated with college, and particularly top tier universities. As companies bend over backward to 'win top talent' they're consistently overlooking what it means to be highly qualified. If students don't yet have the technical skills to compete, then what are they being evaluated on? By making this shift, companies should then be more open to non-traditional candidates who have the grit, willingness to learn and diversity of thought? Given the right technical training, these folks can perform just as well as folks coming right out a degree program. I remember how hard it was to get a job post-college, but this movement ignore the larger problem: there just aren't enough people with the skills needed for the future. It's not a zero sum game, we need organizations to expand the channels for talent vs. making them more narrow. #diversity #talent #recruiting (even this picture is illustrative of the problem - 4 white guys, 1 white woman, 1 black woman pitching to 2 white leaders... 🤔 )

Are Third-Class Graduates Underrated? In the corporate world, job listings often mention a minimum requirement of a second-class lower degree, inadvertently sidelining third-class graduates. This begs the question: Are third-class graduates underrated and overlooked? A recent recruitment process in my organization revealed something profound. We were seeking to feel a vacant position, and among the applicants was a candidate with a third-class degree. Despite the initial bias toward more highly ranked degrees, this individual outshined the other four candidates with better academic qualifications. During both the written test and the micro-teaching segment, this candidate demonstrated exceptional skills, creativity, and a unique approach to problem-solving. Their performance was a stark reminder that grades do not always reflect a person’s true potential or capability. This experience taught me that everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves, regardless of the label their degree carries. What are your thoughts? Have you ever witnessed a similar situation where someone surpassed expectations? Let me know in the comments!
