I was about to give an HR training and was loading my super-cool PowerPoint presentation. The energy in the room from our employees was palpable- they always encouraged our small HR team in everything we did. Those were the days. I loved my job and worked long hours because I was enthralled with the entrepreneurial nature of being an HR Generalist where our company gave big freedoms to do as much as we wanted. It was more than a job- it was an exploration of potential. Our HR team was proactive and thrived on taking ownership and delving into diverse initiatives that would contribute to the company's growth. We got our hands into everything. One moment I was spearheading high-volume national corporate recruitment, and the next moment I was collaborating with our external counsel on employee relations matters. Simultaneously, I was engaged with our immigration attorney, navigating the complexities of J-1 and O-1 visas. I led initiatives to elevate our employment branding, undertook projects to streamline our onboarding processes into a paperless format, and even contributed my insights to our social media and monthly newsletter. I handled onboarding and conducted impactful training sessions. This role provided me with an intimate understanding of what it takes to be in the trenches as an HR professional. It taught me how to handle and thrive with a larger-than-average workload. And it shaped me to be versatile in business. All jobs have their critical lessons and abilities to mold you. Recruitment and Talent Employer Forum Event 📢 Calling all Dorset based employers! The Employer Standards is a new framework and tool developed by The Careers & Enterprise Company to help raise the quality of business outreach with education at scale. Over 750 employers have already evaluated themselves against nine evidence-based Standards. This is providing powerful comparative data about what’s working and areas to improve. Standard 5 (Prepare young people for application processes) is proving the most challenging for employers to meet (average score of 41%). This finding is matched by Future Skills Questionnaire data (58% of Year 11 students report they do not feel confident talking about their skills in an interview, contrasting with more positive responses on other career readiness questions). This event aims to bring businesses together to understand local recruitment processes and share best practice.
