Yesterday, I started my day in the Melbourne for Xero roadshow #3. Today, I’m in Cairns to do it all again. We made some rookie mistakes at our first roadshows. Seeing companies like Daniel Steinhauser/Clayton Wood from Seamlss and Lauren Crawford from Translucent nail it, gave us insight into how we could improve. What didn’t work: ❌ White shirts with a small Rechargly logo (not eye-catching) ❌ Our banner didn’t clearly explain what we do ❌ Using “millennial” language like “pick the best meme” on our contest didn’t land What we changed: ✅ Bright purple shirts with a large logo (more visible and memorable) ✅ Moved all banner copy to the top ✅ Never stand behind the table unless we’re giving a demo We had more conversations in Narre Warren than at the other two roadshows combined. Maybe the location played a part, but these tweaks made a big difference. These changes might seem obvious, but it wasn’t at the time. Have you done a trade show before? XEROCON - The Debrief Firstly, what an event! It was an absolute whirlwind and nearly finished me off, but huge kudos to Ash and the team – it was epic! Why We Go: It all ties back to our core value: Win Together. Our mission is to elevate the lives of our teams and clients. As a business owner, just like many of my clients, I’m dedicated to continuous improvement. We’re not perfect, but every week and month, we make strides forward. Standing still isn’t an option – progress is essential. We aim to help our clients thrive, fostering relationships that add real value, not just managing taxes and being a cost. That’s why we are at events like these. Our Strategy: Attending Xerocon is a deliberate step in our strategy to improve myself, my team, my business, and the service we provide to clients. And yes, we gained real, tangible value from it. Plus, we had a blast! As a wise man once said, “Have fun in what you do” (shout out to Jonathan). There’s nothing like being inspired and excited about what’s next. The Debrief Our journey back was filled with debrief discussions, and our to-do list is packed – insights from talks, exhibitors, and the incredible community. Here are some of our plans: - Adding Value to Clients: Leveraging our tools to enhance our service and deliver greater value. - Navigating Tech: Embracing the rapidly changing tech landscape to boost both client service and team fulfilment. - Rolling Out Enhancements: Implementing Xero’s new features, like Tap to Pay and JAX, to benefit our clients. So much to go at, and we’re ready for it! Community Spirit Xero has built a community that feels like a second home (without the SDLT – yes, I’m dropping accountancy jokes as we go). It’s a place where we feel accepted and can share ideas, frustrations, and plans. Very few places create that sense of community, and it’s truly special! Shout out to the team who attended. Sam, Lizzie, Evan and Connor - Thanks for all your energy over the last few days. Hope you aren’t as tired as I feel. To the team back at the office.
